Philips Principal Architect System&Development Engineering in Shenzhen, China

Your role:

  • Managing the end to end product requirements and verification/validation matters related to technical solution/execution of a product proposition/platform. Ensure that Requirements and Development logic (User Requirement / Design Input / Output / Verification & Validation) is fullfilling V-model approach.

  • Working closely with the Innovation Program Managers of Breast Feeding and Smart Parenting and Healthy Feeding and other functions to drive the execution (from new product development to cost saving and sustaining engineering, from packaging (collaborating with packaging engineers) to sustainability (new materials, etc.) and leverage collaboration with finish good suppliers.

  • Defining and maintaining the platform architecture and interfaces in optimizing commonality (key modules/components), re-use, synergies and economy of scale within the scope, anticipation of future options, ensuring an optimum solution across the product line(s).

  • Responsible for overseeing the the product development and release of new products, both as single contributor and as team leader.

  • Subject matter expert for Systems Engineering in product development processes. Ensure correct interpretation and implement of all product requirements during the different phases of the product development: requirements are systematically defined and documented (e.g. via DOORS)

  • Responsible for defining and communicating a shared technical and architectural vision across the sub-business and project team to ensure effective usage of the platforms and components. Responsible for optimizing / alignment of the product architecture with manufacturing setup and constrains, supply chain, upcoming technologies and regulatory requirements

  • Translates project objective(s) from benefits and/or step improvements into corresponding functional requirements (targets), considering all valid use cases, product reliability, design robustness, cost, and manufacturability. Display a knack for complex problem-solving by evaluating options and implementing solutions;

  • Drive excellence in CTQ definition and control; design FMEA and process FMEA, with in-house factories and OEM/ODM manufacturers, including lifecycle product quality improvements;

  • Lead a team of System Engineers and Development Engineers. As such, you manage the team's capabilities, develop and maintain a long-term view of the required competencies and knowledge to introduce new technology, ensure adequate resources and tools at the proper time, and maintain and improve the team’s knowledge and expertise.

The MCC-WH team is part of Personal Health, the Research and Development organization is distributed over two main locations: Netherlands (Eindhoven and Drachten) and China (Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It focuses on the development of medically and non-medically endorsed lifestyle products. The team is responsible for the end-to-end development and realization of new product propositions – medical and non-medical regulated devices - with the goal of driving business growth by bringing existing, differentiating, and new product propositions to market.

You will work within a highly motivated team and report to the Product Development Group Leader. Your work location is Philips Innovation Center Shenzhen. We foster a hybrid working model with 4 days/week at the office and 1 day/week from home.

You're the right fit if:

  • Degree or MS in Engineering; Minimum 15+ years of experience in product creation and development, track record of product development from concept to market launch with key involvement in the industrialization phase.

  • Good knowledge of product development and related manufacturing process and experience and competence in systems engineering, and requirement management (via for example, DOORS).

  • Knowledge of medical device quality standards ISO13485/FDA practices and GMP or similar regulated industry standards, including proven knowledge of Good Documentation Practice.

  • Experience in Mechanical CAD/Drawing, DFA, DFM. Relevant expertise in product design for plastic injection, rubber and metal parts. In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and assembling techniques, capable of challenging tool makers, molders, and assembly suppliers on their technical proposals.

  • Qualification in Design for Six Sigma; experience in using tools and methodologies such as dFMEA, CTQ flow down, risk management, etc.; Proof of statistical engineering experience and design for reliability.

  • Demonstrated experience in shaping, leading, and influencing high-performance development teams in a global, multi-location organization to make things happen with high quality.

  • Good communicator and team player who can communicate at all levels (fluent in English). Flexible, Passionate and with Open Attitude.

  • Composure, conflict management, timely decision-making, listening skills, self-motivation, and perseverance are all requirements of this position. Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, new product development environment.

  • Good command of English. Chinese is a plus.

  • Regular travel in South China and Asia is required, expected 20%.
