Job Title: Engineering Manager

Job Description

The Engineering Manager will act as the subject matter expert (SME) in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. This position will assist the Engineering Directors in developing highly competent talent and establish engineering and technical processes and practices to effectively support the client projects. This role will collaborate continuously with the Engineering Directors to ensure that resources are planned for and allocated as projects require.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a team of 10-15 Electrical and Mechanical Engineers focused on electromechanical and medical device product development.

  • Lead the team in supporting product realization from early product conceptualization through sustainable manufacturing.

  • Ensure team members are trained and perform at a high level.

  • Work strategically with other functional leaders to align with the company's vision and ensure the hardware team contributes to the success of the broader company goals.

  • Recruit and hire qualified candidates (salaried or contract) to support project needs and expand the team.

  • Manage and evaluate the performance of direct reports, leading their professional growth and performance improvement.

  • Build a strong culture within the hardware engineering team that aligns with the company's core values. Ensure direct reports demonstrate collaborative teamwork within the hardware team and alongside other functional groups.

  • Plan and allocate team project assignments to meet staffing needs.

  • Plan, implement, and maintain tools and standard practices that enable efficient and effective work.

  • Execute strategic initiatives as defined by the Director of Engineering.

  • Support the development of business-winning proposals in cooperation with the Vantage team.

  • Manage budgetary costs and activities for the engineering team.

  • Assist with projects as a technical subject matter expert or in a Program Management capacity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related Engineering field

  • 5+ years of product development engineering experience with 5+ years in a technical leadership role or engineering management or project management

  • Ability to manage an engineering team, provide positive and constructive feedback, and ensure accountabilities of the team are met

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills as well as good organization and time management skills

  • Demonstrated capability to lead engineering teams in a regulated industry, such as aerospace, automotive, or medical device; preferably ISO and FDA compliance

Work Environment

Desk setting with full access to a creative workspace. Occasional trips to the manufacturing facility a few blocks away. Updated and clean office with a very nice break room. Opportunity to work in the Med Device industry with a majority of staff comprised of degreed engineers. Get to work on a variety of projects.
