The NIKE Sport Research Lab – Greater China (NSRL GC) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to generate detailed understanding of the Chinese athletes* and consumers. We deliver validated insights and state-of-the-art capabilities to drive the future of NIKE products and services. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a Senior Researcher, Sensory Perception. This role executes researches of our Sensory Perception research program at NIKE Sports (China) aiming at a new and better understanding of the Chinese Athlete, leading to product and service innovation - through a portfolio of evidence-based research programs in the NIKE Sport Research Lab – Greater China. Our research will aim at providing measurable and palpable benefits for athletes* across gender and sport primarily focusing on our Greater China geography. You will drive understanding of the athlete* experience with products and services by unlocking what product levers or cues drive the liking of those experiences. Areas of focus will be broad, ranging across footwear and apparel attributes such as feel, fit, comfort, and others.
The candidate needs to be able to grow into an applied, creative expert in the areas of Perception Science and develop the ability to work with a diverse team of scientists and influence creative product teams across NIKE.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
As the Senior Researcher Sensory Perception, you will be responsible for executing research projects (both applied and basic research).
You will participate in the development of new tools, methods and procedures that will streamline data acquisition.
You will become a resident expert for all of the Sensory Perception research tools used by the Nike Sport Research Lab staff.
You will interact with Product Innovators and Business Functions to contribute to holistic evaluation of products and innovation concepts.
You will communicate research findings and insights to diverse audiences.
Tasks related to NSRL GC Research Operations to ensure smooth processes regarding research facilities, research integrity, and research execution round up the work portfolio.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will work as an applied expert and respond to creative product teams across Innovation and Business at NIKE.
You will support NSRL GC Lead and Principal Researchers of the Sensory Perception group at different points in the spectrum of concept development, from those looking to understand athlete* Perception Science opportunities, to teams that have ideas and solutions in mind.
“Hands-on” with research “execution” in collaboration with NSRL GC and NSRL WHQ teammates.
You will report on program progress and impactful insights with NSRL GC and NSRL WHQ teammates.
You will also support external research tasks in the field within Greater China.
WHAT YOU BRING
MSc in Sensory Sciences or related field including Food/Cosmetic Sciences or respective BSc + 2 years of experience in research.
A thorough understanding of Sensory Perception, experimental designs and basic statistical procedures.
Previous experience performing Sensory Perception research with human subjects (scientific publications a plus).
Good communication and people skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Previous experience with footwear and/or apparel testing is preferred.
Knowledge of footwear, apparel, and equipment product creation processes is a plus.
Bilingual language capabilities in Chinese and English.
