Amentum Mechanical Engineer - Space RF Electronics in Severn, Maryland

This is a technical role and would act as a second in command for the Mechanical Space Principal. The position would drive mechanical technical direction of RF space payloads, guide customer interactions, and act as SME for mechanical elements including structure, architecture, interface, cabling, thermal management, and validation. The team focuses on research, design, develop, analyze, and test a variety of aerospace systems for government customers. The successful candidate would be a trusted leader in the aerospace team. While they will wear many hats, they would primarily own a major portion of the project focusing on things such as mechanical design for RF electronics packaging, materials selection for spaceborne payloads including adhesives and radome materials, manufacturing process definition including lamination, payload integration, aerospace materials, and/or qualification testing with consultation from other engineering disciplines. They will represent the mechanical group for customer interactions and milestones. They will receiving classified briefings to aid in guiding project maturation on the low side which may include projects across the portfolio.
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering group is a high performing team with a breadth of experience in mechanical design, electronics manufacturing process development, RF electronics packaging, materials selection and testing, structural, and thermal analysis/design.
The level V mechanical/aerospace engineer will perform the following:
Support the conversion of CONOPs and customer requests into payload and component requirements.
Creation of multiple concepts to meet those requirements including, but not limited to, selection of materials, thermal management, structural design. and test methods for space-based RF electronics.
Design and guidance of associated test articles and fixtures to validate selections with coordination from other engineering disciplines.
Support reporting of testing results including support for design reviews both internal and external.
Creation of multiple concept solutions to those requirements and execution of the chosen path.
Creation of 3D CAD (SolidWorks) design and drafting of mechanical/electrical components and assemblies.
Aid in vendor research and selection.
Represent the mechanical group in classified and unclassified settings to audiences up to executive levels.
ABILITY TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A SECURITY CLEARANCE.
Minimum 10 years experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or equivalent (Master's degree may be used) with a focus on electronic packaging and in particular RF electronics packaging.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering (or similar).
Working knowledge of the fundamental principles for performing mechanical design and analysis including materials selection, structural (vibration & shock), and thermal for on orbit payloads.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes - in particular as they relate to the production of RF Aperture systems.
Familiarity with and ability to use and manipulate technical drawings in mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
Strong collaboration skills across disciplines including mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and materials engineering disciplines.
Excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
Good interpersonal skills including a passionate and can-do attitude.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Travel: less than 20%.
Position is hybrid with typically 3-4 days on site each week.
On site may include weekly SCIF work at locations in the DC area.
Desired Requirements: (highly qualified candidate but not required)
Active Top Secret with SAP clearance.
Ability to lead technical maturation of a project from business development phase to launch. Proficient with analysis tools including Ansys, Sherlock, Icepack, STK, SolidWorks simulation, and/or NASTRAN.
12+ years of experience with on orbit hardware.
Experience with spacecraft, satellites, or aerospace systems.
Expertise with MIL-STD-810, NASA GEVS and/or SMC-S-016.
Familiarity with RTCA DO-160, AS9100, NASA-STD-8739.1, and IPC 600.
Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or similar advanced degree.
