Patient Care Technician

Float Pool

Flex Full Time (28-40 hours/week)

Variable Shifts (day/evening/night)

Responsibilities:

• Assist patients with daily living activities (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating) and basic procedures.

• Perform core tasks including blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, specimen collection, Foley care, and more.

• Provide support for physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

• Communicate patient care feedback and report changes to the RN.

• Perform advanced skills as needed, such as phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, IV/foley catheter removal, and more.

• Ensure proper use of equipment and promptly report malfunctions.

• Maintain clear communication with healthcare teams and other departments.

• Provide patient and family education under RN supervision.

• Strictly adhere to hospital policies and safety protocols.

• Document patient care and complete clerical tasks as required.

• Participate in ongoing learning, feedback, and department projects.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must meet one of the following:

• 1 year of healthcare experience, OR

• 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA, OR

• Enrollment in a healthcare training program with one clinical rotation completed, OR

• Bachelor’s degree in health sciences.

• Completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class and basic system training upon hire.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

• EMT/Paramedic experience or enrollment preferred.

• Microcomputer experience preferred.

• Limited access to medication distribution.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

• Act 33 with renewal

• Act 34 with renewal

• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

• OAPSA
