STATE FAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE Disability Resource Coordinator in SEDALIA, Missouri

Position Purpose:The Disability Resource Coordinator works to create equitable access to programs and services for SFCC students in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended. This position is responsible for assisting students with disabilities to identify, request, and effectively utilize support services and accommodations to mitigate educational limitations imposed by their verified disability. The Disability Resource Coordinator serves as a student advocate through collaboration with faculty, staff, and community partners, and raises awareness and understanding of the impact of barriers in a community college environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluate physical and psychiatric/psychological documentation, including IEPs and 504 plans, to determine eligibility and identify appropriate accommodations tailored to each student with a current disability.

``` - Conduct interactive interviews with students to determine reasonable accommodations to facilitate equal access without fundamentally altering the nature of the program, course, service, and/or activity. - Provide excellent student support by building rapport, listening attentively, defusing escalated concerns, confirming understanding, and connecting students with appropriate follow-up services. - Assist with accommodations and train students to use assistive technologies. - Promote self-advocacy and independence among students with disabilities. - Collect, review, and maintain confidentiality of student documentation and all student records and communications in an organized and secure manner consistent with departmental procedures and policies.

``` - Maintain current knowledge of state and federal disability-related rules and regulations. - Document complaints, inquiries, and other concerns, and propose solutions to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement. - Contribute in the development and routine evaluation of departmental goals.

``` - Coordinate with faculty, administration, and staff when implementing accommodations related to facilities, programs, and coursework for otherwise qualified students with disabilities.

``` - Participate in professional development opportunities, including relevant conferences and community events.

``` - Conduct education/training workshops for faculty, students, staff, and high school students and parents regarding services to students. - Serve as a liaison with community partners to identify supplemental resources for students with disabilities.

``` - Perform other duties as assigned, including serving on committees and attending college functions and college sponsored events.

``` - Demonstrate a willingness to take on additional responsibility and work collaboratively, both within the unit and campus wide - Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, special education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, including the following areas: academic accommodation provision, documentation review, assistive technology, and training.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, specifically Title II and III, and its revisions; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and other relevant legislation pertaining to higher education and disability.

``` - Basic under tanding of transition issues for students exiting K-12. - Knowledge of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the community college student. - Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships. - Competency in technology and software, including learning management systems and customer relationship management platforms.

``` - Adept in organizing, prioritizing, and working independently on assignments.

``` - Access to reliable transportation (for travel to all SFCC campus locations). - Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in counseling, rehabilitation, special education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

``` - Four years of experience in the field of disability services, including the following areas: academic accommodation provision, documentation review, assistive technology and training. - Experience with Banner (or comparable Ellucian SIS) and Canvas LMS. - Two years of experience working within a collegiate setting. - May be required to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (may utilize aids). - Must operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard. - Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and to remain stationary or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Work requires frequent sitting, with walking, standing and stooping occasionally required.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (may utilize aids).
  • Must operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
