Port of Seattle Telecommunications Infrastructure Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Telecommunications Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for design review, installation inspection, and cable systems record management which includes fiber optic, coaxial, and twisted pair cables. You will ensure that these systems are functioning properly and troubleshoot any issues that arise.

  • You will analyze project requirements, develop technical specifications, and review plans and diagrams to ensure that cable systems are designed to meet the Port's Communication Standards.

  • You will work closely with design contractor, cable installer contractor, local carriers, and internal departments to ensure cable infrastructure standards are in alignment with the overall cable infrastructure strategy.

  • You will interface with communication architects to provide direction based upon Port communication standards.

  • You will review construction drawings and provide comments as they relate to Port direction and infrastructure standards.

  • You will critically review all project designs.

  • You will consult with project team and other departments to define business requirements, develop strategies, select technology solutions, develop communication cable architectures and implement systems.

  • You will provide support of IT physical layer to all tenants in their wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) architecture and provide horizontal and backbone copper/fiber passive cross connects.

  • You will maintain records through daily work order tracking and documenting utilizing Port's cable management system.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have two (2) years of experience in Information Technology.

  • Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in information technology or business administration. We hope that you have certifications for Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) Installer 2, Copper/Fiber, CompTIA Network or SYSTIMAX Design and Engineering (D&E) and SYSTIMAX Installation and Maintenance (I&M).

  • Adaptable – You possess excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. You can adapt to assigned task priority changes in a dynamic environment.

  • Technical Communicator – You produce clear concise technical documentation for end-users, vendors, co-workers and other technical staff utilizing effective professional technical writing skills. You also possess excellent customer service skills, and can interact professionally with customers, business partners and stakeholders.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion. The first eight weeks of training, you will be required to be in office.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.

  • Security Requirements – You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.

  • Security Requirements – In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehicles. In compliance with Federal and State laws as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.
