UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service. The Service Coordination (SC) unit in UW-IT’s Data & Applications (D&A) division is looking for a Technical Project

Manager who is responsible for:

  • Project Management: management and coordination of project planning, ensuring timely completion of deliverables and coordinating analysis of business processes and service management outcomes for high-profile, complex projects at the University of Washington and its affiliated organizations. This position utilizes a broad spectrum of skills which include IT knowledge (networking, telecommunications, data center, cloud-based computing, security), business process analysis, problem solving, public relations, financial management / budgeting and extensive project management skills. The position purview includes all units within UW-IT and business partners across UW, ensuring that staff and management apply relevant project management practices. This position uses the tools, techniques, and processes provided by global project management standards and guides.

  • Partnering with D&A units to coordinate work intake, work scoping, project portfolios, and resource management.Position Complexities:

  • Represent UW-IT at meetings with UW customer parties.

  • Work with UW-IT customer parties to review and evaluate the improvement or creation of process and procedures for service delivery.

  • Function as an individual, team, and department contributor as a project manager as well as perform technology evaluation, internal consultation, and strategic planning.

  • Ability to manage complex, cross-organizational projects.

  • Ability to motivate and manage diverse project teams.

  • Ability to perform as liaison between units, divisions, and other organizations as required to achieve objectives.

  • Ability to develop efficient procedures, standards, and consistent control mechanisms.

  • Understanding of state of the art computing, networking, social media, collaboration and security technologies.

  • Understanding of UW and UW-Information Technology's governance processes. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or experience

  • Minimum of four years of experience managing complex IT projects, programs, or products in applications, infrastructure, or networking and comprehensive understanding of the underlying technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent technical projects across various teams.

  • Demonstrated project, program, and/or product management skills.

  • Experience in deploying large, complex systems, programs, or projects implementing business process redesign.

  • Experience in project and software development lifecycles and corresponding tools such as issue tracking systems, configuration management systems, requirements management systems and project management systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large technical projects or programs within a team environment.

  • Ability to manage a diverse range of activities in a very visible and pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, technical documentation skills, communication skills, and personal interaction abilities.

  • Ability to speak and write about technical and non-technical issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Expertise with collaboration, database, spreadsheet and word processing applications.

  • Experience communicating with senior leadership and management through all project processes, during priority setting, and providing project status.

  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment. DESIRED:

  • Experience in a large research university or enterprise

  • Familiarity with UW systems, policies, and academic programs.

  • In-depth understanding and working knowledge of various software development methodologies (e.g. Agile, Kanban)

  • Familiarity with user-centered design methods

  • Knowledge of ITIL frameworkEquivalent education/experience may substitute for all minimum qualifications WORKING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Open office environment. This individual will work in a hybrid environment, minimum of two days per week in Seattle office. While the general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., this individual must be willing to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of their staff and colleagues.
