Blue Origin LLC Sr. Vacuum System Design Engineer - Ground Systems in Seattle, Washington

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, Security and Ground System Design. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will perform the design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of ground systems to test components and rocket engines. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Proposing options for the design of vacuum test stands for in-space thrusters and components Performing the detailed design of vacuum test stands including diffusers, ejectors, and overall airlines, including analysis, component specification Create 3D models and engineering drawings for fabrication of designs Manage suppliers and coordinate costs, schedule and technical design requirements Oversee fabrication, installation and commissioning of new or modified systems Generate maintenance plans for the test systems Support and lead troubleshooting efforts on vacuum systems Mentor less experienced engineers and perform peer reviews Up to 25% travel at times Minimum Qualifications: 4-year engineering or equivalent degree Experience performing the design and operating vacuum systems for testing in-space thrusters and equipment Experience designing, specifying and operating steam or inert motive vacuum systems, including performing ejector sizing and design, motive fluid selection, and CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis on the system Experience specifying and operating electrical vacuum pumps Knowledge of fluid system components (i.e. valves, regulators and pumps for cryogenics, propellants and other fluids) Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods Experience performing risk evaluation and process hazard analyses for test systems Knowledge of ASME BPVC and B31.3 codes 8+ years of experience with vacuum system design and operation in Rocket Engine testing applications Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced engineering degree Experience in the design and operation of chemical steam generation systems Experience with deep vacuum systems, including cyro pumps, ion pumps, turbomolecular pumps, Experience with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Plant/P&ID, ProEngineer/Creo and Windchill Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80 Other site ranges may differ Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
