This role is part of Enterprise Engineering, where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. Enterprise Engineering allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will provide experienced technical leadership to Blue Origin program personnel and the established Radiation Effects team. From mission inception to operation, you will ensure success of Blue Origin's systems. Responsibilities: Guide Blue Origin programs with respect to space environments for space radiation, space weather, plasma, debris, etc. Analyze space mission environments and derive relevant requirements to ensure mission success. Evaluate risk and impact of space environment on crewed missions in line with NASA standards and requirements. Evaluate the effects of the space environment on systems utilizing 3D modeling and radiation transport tools. Interface with program personnel and customers. Minimum Qualifications: B.S. in Space Science/Physics, Aerospace, Astrophysics, Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of position-relevant experience. Experience applying knowledge of the space radiation environment to human crew and avionics survival. Experience deriving radiation effects environment specifications utilizing industry standard modeling tools (ex: IRENE, OMERE, SIRE2, SPENVIS, OLTARIS, CREME96, SAPPHIRE, ESP, PSYCHIC). Experience performing radiation shielding analysis via 3D Monte Carlo transport codes (EMPC NOVICE highly preferred, GEANT4, etc.) and 3D modelling tools (CREO). Experience monitoring and predicting space weather conditions. Strong familiarity with industry and NASA standards for mission assurance in space flight. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Domestic travel required. Foreign travel possible. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree and 7+ years of direct position-relevant experience. Ability to define Launch Commit Criteria for launch vehicles based on space weather and other environmental considerations. Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites. Strong familiarity with radiation test standards (JESD57A, MIL-STD-883, etc.) Proficiency with scripting (Python or similar) and automation development.
