Key job responsibilities

You’ll be at the forefront of creating scalable, user-friendly video experiences that seamlessly integrate into the Amazon shopping journey. Working closely with engineers, UX designers, product managers, and cross-functional partners, you’ll dive deep into complex business requirements, invent elegant solutions, and build large-scale systems that drive innovation.

Your technical prowess will shine as you tackle challenges like building real-time video distribution systems, leveraging big data to surface personalized video recommendations, and developing reusable APIs to fetch content from various sources. But your role isn’t just about writing code – you’ll also be a key communicator, representing your team’s capabilities to stakeholders across Amazon and helping them unleash the power of video in their own customer experiences.

-Design and implement scalable, user-centric video experiences on the Amazon retail website

-Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute on the technical roadmap

-Develop reusable APIs and systems to fetch and distribute video content

-Optimize for performance, reliability, and scalability of video-related features

-Communicate technical capabilities and solutions to stakeholders across the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Strong Computer Science and development fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as Java, Python, C++, C.

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Experience building large-scale software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.

  • Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end software systems and all points in between.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.

  • 4+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Experience with AWS technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software engineers or software developers in all aspects of their engineering duties.

  • Experience communicating with users, software development engineering teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features and technical designs.

  • Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new technologies with high commercial impact.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
