New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will lead an engineering team responsible for Autonomy software development that includes guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) software, simulation development, and aerodynamics analysis for New Shepard human spaceflight systems. As a New Shepard Lead Engineer (Cognizant Engineer), you will assume ultimate ownership and accountability for the success of these Autonomy systems throughout the product lifecycle. This person will lead design and ensure the successful development of the Autonomy systems for the next generation New Shepard launch vehicles. This includes direct line management and mentoring of a team of dedicated engineers. This will require leadership, creative problem solving, and ingenious design work. They will also be the technical authority for Autonomy system decisions affecting our ongoing launch operations at Launch Site One. As Lead Engineer for Autonomy, you must have an excellent understanding of autonomy system design including safety critical software development and verification. You must also have exceptional leadership and project management skills. We are seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can work with minimal direction and coordinate teams in the successful execution of engineering integration activities. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight! Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead verification and development of Autonomy software for the next generation of New Shepard launch vehicles Manage directly assigned personnel including providing career development, mentoring, performance management, recognition, and recruiting Make technical decisions as needed to ensure an excellent product Lead team meetings to set priorities and direction for the team, as well as to stay accountable for the team's work and decisions Coordinate configuration changes with upstream and downstream stakeholders Assess programmatic impact of configuration change requests Develop and execute verification plans for the subsystem Identify risks and develop mitigation plans Develop and report key project metrics Minimum qualifications: Passion for Blue Origin's mission: Millions of people living and working in space! B.S. in engineering or physics 5+ years of proven experience managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups, with responsibility for technical quality of work delivered, and career management of employees 10+ years of proven experience in leading development of requirements, interfaces, trades and analyses for GN&C, autonomous system, and simulation applications Experience in development, implementation, and testing of guidance, navigation, and control algorithms on a
