Amazon Senior Embedded Engineer, Amazon Branded Connected Devices in Seattle, Washington

In this role, you will be instrumental in developing a new portfolio of smart home devices that provide more contextual awareness to Alexa and help Alexa sense the home environment. You will work on new-to-world technologies and devices, creating new experiences that empower users to interact with the physical world in more meaningful and efficient ways. The work you do will be front and center for millions of customers around the world, directly impacting the overall customer experience.

Key job responsibilities

  • Be responsible for system architecture and guide the development team throughout the embedded software development lifecycle.

  • Design, develop, and verify embedded software for next-generation smart home devices that is secure, maintainable, robust, and scalable.

  • Successfully collaborate cross-functionally across teams and organizations (product, platform software, hardware, manufacturing, etc.).

  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications and devices.

  • Deliver investigation plans and reports, architectural documents, design specs, software and firmware source code, and build scripts.

  • Perform tasks including debug, board bring-up, prototyping, Beta, and production software development.

  • Drive engineering best practices, raising the quality of design reviews, API development, documentation, firmware code, and testing.

  • Utilize tools and techniques to efficiently build, debug, test, and optimize embedded systems.

  • Build expertise in one or more core wireless technologies - WiFi, Bluetooth.

The Amazon Branded Connected Devices (ABCD) team owns the firmware, backend, and app software for smart home accessories such as the Amazon Smart Plug, Amazon Echo Glow, and Amazon Air Quality Monitor. Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • Experience in embedded development in C/C+- Experience with RTOS

  • Experience in embedded software design, development and debugging

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience leading and influencing your team or organization

  • Experience with embedded Linux development

  • Excellent judgment, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable taking initiative and working across teams

  • Excellence in technical communication with peers, partners, and non-technical co-workers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
