The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Study Coordinator 1 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv). Research investigators are currently seeking a highly flexible and organized individual to work on funded research studies conducted within the department. The RSC will also assist with the ongoing strategic plan for the department’s research program as well as unfunded research activities within the department. This position is a great opportunity to obtain valuable experience in a research setting, interacting with multiple faculty members working potentially within different disciplines (e.g. psychology, physiatry, physical therapy, etc.) and patient populations (e.g. traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, etc.).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the preparation of human subjects applications, consent forms and progress reports for institutional review board
Assist in developing an electronic data capture system for data collection and tracking study participants.
Monitor data quality control to ensure adherence to study protocol.
Identify, recruit, and screen potential study subjects both in person and via telephone per established criteria for eligibility.
Obtain informed consent from prospective participants either via telephone or in-person.
Answer subjects’ questions regarding study protocols, and explain study procedures.
Schedule, track, and conduct study surveys over the telephone and in person with enrolled participants.
Enter data from study surveys into study electronic data capture systems according to protocol.
Assist in modification of procedures for collecting and summarizing data.
Send and track payments to participants when applicable.
Attend study meetings, and collect and distribute meeting minutes. Provide study personnel with progress reports as requested.
Notify appropriate research personnel regarding problems or complications reported by subjects.
Use statistical and database management programs to analyze data and prepare summary narrative reports, graphs, tables, charts and illustrations.
Help with tracking specific strategies and operational milestones implemented to achieve research strategic planning goals and initiatives.
Help with the submission of grant proposals to federal, state and foundation sponsors.
Help with the submission of research manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.
Work on unfunded research pilot studies conducted within the department.
Help short-term with a looming recruitment/enrollment deadline for a funded study.
Assist with administrative duties such as scheduling meetings, maintaining documents, planning trips, and photocopying.
Perform other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral studies involving human subjects OR equivalent education/experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to understand and execute research protocols and procedures.
Ability and comfort with managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work cooperatively in a small team environment as well as independently.
Ability and willingness to communicate with individuals with chronic medical conditions and/or communication limitations.
Completion of at least one course in research methods and statistics in a social sciences field. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a science or health care field or relevant academic area.
Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities and/or chronic medical conditions.
Experience working or volunteering in a rehabilitation medicine setting.
At least one year of experience in behavioral or clinical research.
Experience using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) system and/or Microsoft Access.
Experience recruiting, screening, and enrolling participants via telephone and in person.
Experience conducting research interviews or surveys with participants via telephone and in person.
Experience using SPSS.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position will work with clinical research involving human participants within UW Medicine and therefore clinical RSA training is required. The training requirement for this position includes UW Medicine-specific as well as general training.
The successful candidate will work during normal business hours (8a-5p) Monday through Friday, but may be asked occasionally to complete telephone interviews or technology trainings in the evening and weekends to accommodate certain participants’ schedules. The candidate will be able to work a hybrid/remote schedule, with onsite work taking place on the Harborview Medical Center campus.
