The University of Washington Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a leadership role in the Department of Radiology.

This role will provide professional-level leadership and support for clinical research studies in the Department of Radiology. This includes technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments, planning and directing research projects, and coordinating research and development activities.

Support and direct research support staff, including research coordinators, statisticians, and research fellows. Organize and structure onboarding activities for research staff for the Department of Radiology. Structure and maintain research fellow program, including website informational and intake site, collect applications, along with VC of Clinical Research, review and screen applicants, and coordinate with potential mentors.

Independently, process and coordinate the operations of clinical research studies. This requires the knowledge and skills specific to designing, conducting and directing research protocols. Assist investigators and leverage coordinators to help with submission of research studies to IRB and other entities as appropriate to meet all regulatory and compliance submissions involving editing of investigator-initiated protocols and consent forms as well as submission of cooperative group protocols and industry protocols. Support data user agreement (DUA) applications. Follow up with and guide applications through the approval process. Set up and implementation of SOPs as needed to meet the requirements of and adherence to protocols.

Performs professional level program administration and management of a non-routine nature which requires independent judgment and decision making. Exercises substantial responsibility to ensure program success. Utilizes specialized knowledge of the specific program to allocate resources and establish policies, methods, and procedures for the program. Ensures that program conforms to institutional and department policies and regulations.

This person will contribute to the growth and success of the Department by supporting and promoting clinical research objectives. They will work with faculty members to identify research problems and assist in the design, execution, and data coordination in research.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Research Activities: 70%

  • Management of department clinical research activities, supporting research staff, specifically research coordinators, statisticians, and research fellows.

  • Collaborate with clinician scientist faculty and fellows to design studies, submit IRB applications, acquire DUA’s when necessary, and track applications through approval.

  • Coordinate with investigators to facilitate collaborations across departments and within the department.

  • Direct investigators to appropriate resources within the departmental and extra-departmental research infrastructure to facilitate project progress.

  • Problem solve research obstacles facing investigators.

  • Provide support on-site on a frequent basis.Clinical Research Staff Education and Process Development : 20%

  • Co-create educational materials and programs to train research staff, fellows and junior faculty on available resources, database access and utilization, research activity performance (grant writing, manuscript writing, abstract and meeting presentations).

  • Direct the staff and research fellow on-boarding process.

  • Engagement with research fellows and staff to identify gaps in understanding or knowledge, help address challenges or obstacles, and direct to appropriate support or resources.

  • Create training materials for investigators on expectations for mentors including tips and tricks for successful mentorship.Communications: 10%

  • Contact and facilitate communications and questions related to UW Radiology Research.

  • Support internal and external partner engagement activities.

  • Communicate upcoming deadlines and opportunities for research funding or other opportunities to the radiology department. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or higher degrees.

  • 6 years or more experience in medical imaging research.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Familiarity with radiology operations and compliance requirements.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and ownership of work, successfully prioritize, and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow through.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Management skills and experience in leading teams. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with imaging modalities, including MR, CT, US, PET.

  • Strong understanding of research processes and operations. Extensive experience in the multitude of steps in research including but not limited to study design, approvals, study initiation and implementation, regulatory processes, data analysis, grant funding, publication, meeting presentation, and final report preparation and submission.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage and direct a team.

  • Website design.

  • Ability to adapt to new software and interpret changing policies.

  • Confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities and experience. Ability to create an organized presentation to groups in various formats.

  • Knowledge of and experience with the University of Washington systems.

  • Proactive problem solver and communicator, with a desire to improve systems.

  • Comfortable in collaborative setting and working within and across cultures.

  • Familiar with biomedical research terminology.

Flexibility in schedule and intensity of work is necessary.Position is suitable/eligible for occasional telework.Some travel between sites may be necessary by UW Health Services or other shuttles.Some travel to other imaging centers and scientific / professional conferences may be appropriate or required.
