Role Summary

The Manager, Fuel is responsible for executing on the strategy for our Fuel Operations team, in support of the AAG Fuel Strategy. As a people leader, the Manager, Fuel Operations leads and establishes priorities for the team to ensure optimal supply and that fuel operations are performed safely and in compliance with all operational, administrative and regulatory requirements as well as consistently evaluates and assesses the Fuel program to deliver high performance and operational improvement.

Key Duties

  • Responsible for on-airport fueling activities to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient fueling of our aircraft.

  • Identify and communicate critical fuel operational and supply events.

  • With minimal direction from leadership, partner cross-functionally to lead mitigation planning and process improvement, relying on both change management and analytical capabilities.

  • Construct the long-term strategy development and execution of into-plane vendors and fuel storage operations that balances the ongoing operational requirement with the financial objective to continually reduce AAG fuel costs. Remain up to date on all industry changes and standards evolutions, assuring adherence to all regulatory safety and guidelines for fuel operations, storage and handling, assuring Alaska integrates industry-leading best practices.

  • Communicate frequently with Safety, Airport Operations & QA to support vendor audits, providing resolutions for Fuel related issues.

  • Represent Fuel Team in support of AS and QX interests to various consortiums, industry groups and conferences.

  • Collaborate with Fuel Controller to define key financial metrics related to fuel consumption and conservation. Identifies variances, trends and potential issues with fuel usage and fuel supply.

  • Determine fuel requirements for new markets and stations ensure operational readiness; make recommendations and monitor existing projects to ensure compliance with safety and performance requirements.

  • Manage vendors on quality, performance, cost, regulatory or policy compliance; identify performance issues, gaps, trends, assuring underperforming vendors are effectively managed to mitigate operational issues.

  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, teaching the ability to think strategically and to understand the fundamentals of our business.

  • Shapes culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of positive behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of fuel or similar commodity operations experience within an airline or related organization. 

  • 2 years of leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), including the ability to present and summarize complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.

  • Analytics expertise, including ability to evaluate, recommend and communicate complex data in a clear and compelling manner.

  • Ability to establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with both internal and external partners.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including coworkers, professionals, and peers.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to cope with conflicts caused by competing priorities.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Knowledge and understanding of airline, aircraft and station operations.

  • Vendor management experience.

Salary Range

$113,200 - $169,800 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
