UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.

BIT has an outstanding opportunity for a Manager, BI Analytics .

Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) is UW Facilities’ IT organization, providing efficient and effective technology solutions and support to the teams that build, operate, and maintain the more than 643 acres of UW campus. BIT collaborates with university partners to implement technical solutions for delivering strategic business goals and outcomes across technology products, processes, and standards. The Manager Departmental Computing with the Operating Title of Manager of BI Analytics will be an important member of the BIT team responsible for managing the foundational technologies and a team of technical staff focused on the discipline of BI / Analytics as well as database management. This position will lead a team of systems analysts, system admins and report writers who support all BI Analytics related functions for UWF. The Manager of BI Analytics ensures the security and continuous operations for UWF systems by leading and collaborating on the strategic direction of the systems; coordinating with peer institutions to stay current with industry trends and best practices; leading and mentoring system engineers and system administrators; and directly supporting BI Analytics reporting and database infrastructure, ETL processes, reporting tools (e.g, Tableau and Power BI) . This role combines technical expertise with leadership experience to ensure that we provide continuous value to our stakeholders.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Business Innovation & Technology, this position must lead, plan, and advise on the strategic and tactical direction of UW Facilities BI/Analytics functions through strategic planning, program management, technical systems administration and human resources management. This includes build/buy strategic assessments, applying systems administration best practices across multiple disciplines, and robust documentation that will be impactful to staff now and in the future. This role will lead UWF in the development of industry and university best practices for BI/Analytics. This position will be responsible for aligning the UWF technology strategies, initiatives and work with overall UW technical strategies and initiatives.

25% Technology Program Management

• Develop and manage a strategically relevant and operationally impactful BI Analytics program for UWF working with key stakeholders within UWF, UW and externally as required. • Maintain an up-to-date annual plan and manage multiple projects for major BI Analytics initiatives. • Identify and track operational and technical challenges and opportunities related to BI analytics. Recommend mitigation plans that resolve those risks or reduce their impact/probability of occurring. • In coordination with UW Facilities and UW IT partners (e.g., participating in data governance) create and update technical standards in support of BI Analytics used for reporting, database design, etc.. • Participate Regularly meet with technology partners throughout UW and UW Facilities to refine system roadmaps and develop resolutions to challenges. • Engage with other University Partners (UW-IT, HFS, etc.) to strategize around service alignment. • Coordinate with peer institutions and industry groups to ensure the University is following best practices for device lifecycle management and security.

50% BI Analytics Programming and Technical Support Services

• Apply exceptional technical skills in computing disciplines of BI Analytics the delivery of BI Analytics services (e.g, SQL programming, custom reporting using PowerBI, Tableau and other reporting applications, database services, other custom development such as ETLs). • Provide technical support and assistance to UWF staff using reporting tools and analytics databases to produce analytical reports. • Develop prototypes of BI Analytics deliverables and deliver working BI Analytics products for us by all staff in UWF. • Serve as a technical liaison between system owners and technology vendors.

25% Technology Staff Management and Leadership

• Hire, mentor, coach, and support systems administrators and systems engineers • Create high value engagement with team members using necessity-focused meetings emphasizing support for team and individual goals, professional development, performance evaluation, and careful alignment of project priorities with individual and team capacity. • Lead and foster bi-directional communication across all management and staff levels • Evaluate team and organizational effectiveness and empower staff to identify and pursue opportunities, innovations, and improvements • Lead and ensure support for a diverse workforce • Conduct hiring, staff development, work allocation and performance management for multiple professional staff members and student interns • Support the management and development of student interns hired into BIT.

Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.

• 5 years of experience to include: -developing BI Analytics dashboards and reports using SQL Programming, SSRR, PowerBI, Tableaus or similar tools, -and experience leading BI Analytics initiatives/programs and/or experience building BI Analytics platforms / database warehouse / data marts

• Strong understanding of database management functions and features needed to support reporting platform development and maintenance.

• Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analyze information quickly, manage risk, and make accurate recommendations.

• High quality organizational and leadership skills and outstanding communication and presentation abilities including the demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in non-technical language both orally and in written form.

• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills to align the business process with IT systems with success across organizational lines.

• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders of various levels of authority and expertise across units.

• Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills (both written and oral) are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with trades staff and others.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

• 2 years of experience leading BI Analytics initiatives and/or programs • 2 years of experience building BI Analytics platforms / database warehouse / data marts • Experience in higher education processes, applications, and systems; familiarity with a complex large research university. • Knowledge and experience with administration and the technology, compliance, government and sponsor requirements, and other issues that comprise the industry. • Knowledge of networking principles and experience troubleshooting device communication issues, ideally as it pertains to Operational Technology devices • Experience writing technical design standards for BI Analytics and Metrics. • Experience in related disciplines including cybersecurity, data integrations, business process design, project management and portfolio management. • Experience with cloud-based enterprise applications and infrastructure • Experience in related disciplines including cybersecurity, data integrations, business process design, project management and portfolio management. • Knowledge and experience with administration and the technology, compliance, government and sponsor requirements, and other issues that comprise the industry. • Knowledge of space management systems, Systems and Energy Management systems. • Knowledge of networking principles and experience troubleshooting device communication issues, ideally as it pertains to Operational Technology devices • Familiarity with the design build process for new construction. • Experience writing technical design standards for Operational Technology or Internet of Things devices or systems. • Experience with cloud-based enterprise applications and infrastructure • Demonstrated experience with multitasking, dealing with ambiguity, and time management. • Knowledge and experience with administration and technology compliance, government and sponsor requirements, and other issues that comprise the industry.
