WORK SCHEDULE - FULL-TIME; 40 HOURS PER WEEK; 100% FTE
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Vascular Surgery Department is a major clinical and academic division of the Department of Surgery at UWMC. The UWMC Vascular Lab provides diagnostic sonographic services to inpatient, outpatient and emergency department patients.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The manager has a comprehensive range of responsibilities including: financial planning/management, budget development, supervision of the department's classified and exempt staff, personnel, payroll, purchasing, special project support, and other management functions for UWMC.
The manager acts in an advisory capacity to the Administrative and Medical Directors, physician leadership and various department committees, providing financial guidance, background information and management advice. In order to manage the department effectively, the manager must develop and implement a structure that supports recruiting and directing personnel as necessary to support the department's operation. The manager must have in depth experience and understanding of Vascular Lab functions.
The manager will hire, recruit, orient and train vascular sonographers. Assess skills, train, coach, evaluate staff and progressive disciplinary action as required for sonographers and support staff. Promotes excellence in patient care delivery and outcomes by overseeing, coordinating and delegating as necessary, the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, standards and clinical education in the Vascular Lab. Assure that research, clinical trials and new technology are safely, appropriately conducted, supported and completed. Participates in the accreditation process for the Vascular Lab. All related staff education and guidelines for patient care and the responsibilities of the manager. Lead or participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality management, patient care and Patients-are-First initiatives. Assure a safe environment for the provision of patient care and instruct others as needed, to assure a safe environment. Lead and/or participate in clinical initiatives.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Current registration as a registered vascular technologist through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers - 4 or more years of previous lead or supervisory experience - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
Desired: - Completed training from accredited American Medical Association - Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHE) for vascular ultrasound program.
