Typical Day in the Life A typical day in the life of a Governmental Advisory Services Senior Consultant may include the following: Oversee ongoing and one-time advisory engagements and special studies related to state and local government financial, operational, and policy issues such as year-end close, budget and long-term financial plan development, organizational assessments, policy development, and implementation of new GASB standards. Apply knowledge and understanding of government industry standards and best practices related to finance and accounting in order to implement and adhere to agency policies, procedures, and financial reporting requirements. Manage a team performing routine assessments of processes, procedures, internal controls, and transactions in order to provide recommendations for improvements deemed required by the results of external inspections. Introduce efficiencies to applications in practice, or the understanding and usability of results to enhance the decision making process. Ensure cyclical accounting and financial reporting objectives of the client are met including routine balance account reconciliations, monthly and quarterly journal entries, month end and year end closing duties, budget to actual analysis, and routine financial reporting. Utilize Microsoft Excel advanced concepts to analyze large amounts of financial data. Provide coaching and support to team members through delegation and supervision of engagement tasks, hands-on training with assigned tasks, review of work performed, and knowledge sharing of technical standards and industry best practices. Establish and maintain effective client relationships in regards to advisory matters as well as coordinating the delivery of services. Who You Are You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, 5-10 years of experience in the government industry including supervisory experience. Active licensure as a Certified Public Accountant, a Master's degree, or another relevant professional certification is preferred. You have advanced knowledge of government accounting and financial management standards and best practices applicable at the state and/or local level. You are an intellectually curious, solutions-oriented person, who enjoys working independently and in small groups to develop unique solutions to complex client challenges. You take a creative approach when applying analytical and critical thinking skills to develop solutions to complex problems. You are skilled in developing a professional network and comfortable with being tasked with pursuing new business
