Weyerhaeuser Forestry Statistics Intern in Seattle, Washington
As an intern on the Forestry Statistics team, you will gain experience working as a professional statistician in a corporate research and development setting. You will work with experienced statisticians and subject matter experts to analyze data from one or more real research projects. Projects come from a wide variety of fields, including environmental science, wildlife research, forestry, and wood products manufacturing. This role requires the ability to work with complex datasets, an understanding of R programming, and a strong foundation of statistical analysis techniques.
*Key Functions: * Intern roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting new project development with experimental design
- Managing project datasets, including cleaning and merging data from multiple sources
- Performing exploratory data analysis
- Data analysis & modeling using standard methods
- Preparation of graphical displays to highlight features of the data or analysis results
- Presentation of results to project team and stakeholders
Working collaboratively with clients and project teams
Must be currently enrolled in or recently obtained an MSc/PhD degree in Statistics or a related field
- Experience with statistical analysis methods including linear models, generalized linear models and mixed effects models
- Experience with experimental design and sampling (desired)
- Proficient in R programming including the ability to manipulate and visualize data
- Experience with Bayesian analyses and samplers (JAGS, NIMBLE, Stan) (desired)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent planning and organization skills Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Compensation: The pay rate for this role ranges from $25.00 - $30.00 per hour based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience.
Location: This position is located at the Weyerhaeuser headquarters in Pioneer Square, downtown Seattle, WA. The work schedule is hybrid, with in-office attendance required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remote work is allowed on Monday and Friday.
