About the Position: Serves as a Crane Operator and Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic duties in a mixed position at a high lift lock and dam facility.

Duties

  • As a Crane Operator you will operate a variety of boom cranes including truck mounted, pedestal mounted and a permanently placed 75-ton stiff leg with boom and jib more than 115 feet.
  • Operate a variety of boom cranes to load or unload trucks, floating equipment, to remove or place materials and equipment in connection with lock maintenance, and to dry dock boats and barges.
  • Make up to 60 foot "blind lifts.
  • Make precise load placements with loads near capacity in situations of limited maneuverability where exact movements must be made to position the load accurately and safely.
  • Perform rigging and minor maintenance as required.
  • As a journey level Lock and Dam Mechanic you will perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, and new installation for interlocking mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic equipment, and systems.
  • Inspects, adjusts, lubricates, tests, installs, calibrates, and/or performs major and minor repairs at regularly scheduled intervals.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and/or rebuilds electric motors, diesel, and gasoline engines of associated equipment (such as large mobile cranes, construction type equipment, bulkhead hoists, generators, hydraulic pumps, air compressors, etc.).

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Pre-employment physical is required.
  • Participation in the Medical Surveillance Program is required.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • May be called to perform work in an emergency situation 24 hours a day.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) CRANE OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties of a Crane operator. I am able to operate a truck or barge mounted crane or a permanently placed 75-ton stiff leg in open areas well within lift capacity to perform one or more of the following: load and unload trucks, floating equipment, remove debris from inland waters, and/or to dry dock boats and barges. I am able to perform rigging and routine preventative maintenance on cranes. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
