The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time(0.8 FTE) Continuing Education Specialist to join their team.

The UW Occupational Safety and Health Continuing Education Programs (OSHCE) within the School of Public Health Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (DEOHS) provides high quality professional development and training. OSHCE reflects the DEOHS commitment to serving the on-going and evolving educational needs of workers, business leaders, and occupational health and safety practitioners. Through its partnership with the Northwest Center for Occupational Health & Safety, OSHCE offers high quality, professional development courses for practitioners working in occupational medicine, occupational health nursing, industrial hygiene, safety, hazardous materials management, and related disciplines in Region 10 (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington). It is also home to the Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center, which is the only OSHA-authorized training facility in the Pacific Northwest, now under the OSHA San Francisco Region.

This position is responsible for creating and delivering specialized training to target grant audiences. The primary function of this position is to serve as a member of the OSHCE leadership team and as a subject matter expert to develop training objectives, direct development of training materials, oversee training resources, and deliver training courses across a number of delivery formats including in-person and eLearning. The CE Specialist must have specialized knowledge and expertise in the development of multi-platform curriculum and instruction methods and application; expertise in eLearning delivery methods and best practices; adult education and professional student teaching methods and techniques; and subject matter expertise in selected topics related to environmental and occupational health and safety. The Continuing Education Specialist will be one of the senior level instructors providing courses in OSHCE’s leadership academy, and guide OSHCE Director and staff in course logistics and delivery of eLearning programs. The CE Specialist will be a senior level contributor to identifying and implementing efficiencies across OSHCE programs and groups through standardized project planning and curriculum development, use of technology, common protocols, and consistent quality control measures. The position will also develop and promote OSHCE educational products and foster business development efforts.

The position will be required to use independent judgment to initiate and direct complex tasks for a wide variety of occupational health and safety training programs. The position will need to develop fluency in state-of-the art educational training technologies that are interoperable with our current complex technology environment. The position will function independently to plan and deliver components of larger team projects, need to prioritize multiple responsibilities, have a high attention to detail, and work accountably and effectively as part of a team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management (50%)

  • Direct and implement specific training as necessary and in consultation with the OSHCE’s leadership team to develop training materials, evaluate technologies, roll out support for new services, and support customer interest in emerging technologies.

  • Lead activities with the OSHCE Director and other leadership members and staff for the development of business leads, CE and contracts courses that foster business and growth of the programs.

  • Serve as a qualified instructor for OSHCE courses and programs including development of curriculum; selection of appropriate teaching methodologies; assessment of student learning and satisfactory progress; oversee evaluations; and provide assessment and reporting to the Director, OSCHE leadership, and other instructors.

  • Manage curriculum development with leadership team, UW faculty and external professionals that aligns with OSHCE certificate programs to include topics such as leadership, communication, change management, psychological safety and other relevant topics.

  • Update and manage website content, news information, blog content, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram feeds and YouTube Channel, and other digital platforms.

  • Assign and direct the duties of Continuing Education Coordinators and student assistants related to the maintenance of the Customer Relationship Management system, creation and development of marketing materials and newsletters, social media, and updates to website content.Technology and LMS Administration (40%)

  • Develop and conduct strategic planning, performance goals and measures for the training programs.

  • Build the appropriate level of technology infrastructure to support OSHCE’s distance education initiatives.

  • Provide one-on-one and small group consulting to OSHCE leadership, staff, and course faculty/instructors in supporting effective curriculum design and use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.

  • Evaluate and advise the Director, instructors, and other leadership regarding new pedagogical technologies to discover new and better ways to enhance instruction or administrative operations.Communication, Coordination and Collaboration (10%)

  • Manage and maintain the Customer Relationship Management system for aligning customer engagement, business goals, and metrics to increase student enrollments in OSHCE programs.

  • Provide on-going recommendations for operational readiness for growth and work with program managers to review workflow and to create quality assurance systems aligned to new policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with the OSHCE leadership team to develop and manage content of course marketing collateral materials, exhibit displays, announcements, media releases, and other activities to promote professional development courses.

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with DEOHS faculty, UW educators and researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to create and deliver course offerings and training programs. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in psychology, education, occupational health, educational technology, or similar AND 5 years of experience in teaching, instructional design and/or with instructional technology. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in teaching leadership development, motivation and emotional intelligence to occupational and public health audiences.

  • Expertise in strategic planning and business operations for delivering educational programs.

  • Experience in lesson and curriculum planning skills.

  • Proficiency in the use of eLearning authoring tools.

  • Ability to work with diverse audiences and participate as a member of a professional team.
