The CoMotion Labs has an outstanding opportunity for a CoMotion Labs Manager to join their team.
CoMotion Labs is a multi-industry incubator for early-stage startups from the greater Seattle region, in addition to the UW community. From providing critical infrastructure to opportunities for learning, mentoring, and networking, CoMotion Labs nurtures and enables success. The CoMotion Labs Manager will oversee the strategy, operations, outreach, and community engagement for the Incubator program focused on climate tech and sustainability, located in downtown Seattle. The Labs Manager provides regular mentorship, goal-setting sessions, and networking opportunities for an annual cohort of five to fifteen startups. The CoMotion Labs Manager is responsible for cohort recruitment, mentor matching, and will work to ensure the success of CoMotion-affiliated climate tech entrepreneurs.
The CoMotion Labs Manager fosters a community of entrepreneurship within the policy framework of the University of Washington. The CoMotion Labs Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the CoMotion Labs Incubator including recruitment and management of startup company cohort members, maximizing participation, and ensuring a high quality of service. Alongside other CoMotion incubator managers, this position will develop and enforce policies and procedures for the climate tech incubator and is responsible for member and partner adherence to these policies. The position will oversee the climate tech incubator budget and manage all membership agreements, deliverables, invoicing, and payments. Additional responsibilities include expanding the mentor network, developing a climate tech-focused resource manual, and overseeing the incubator space in collaboration with our partners. This position requires a dynamic individual with excellent communication skills and a capacity for managing strategy, operations, and community coordination.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategy and Operations (60%) Recruitment and Onboarding for the CoMotion Labs Climate Incubator Cohort:
Serve as the primary point of contact for CoMotion-affiliated climate entrepreneurs and startups, promoting CoMotion Labs to regional, national, and global tech communities.
Manage recruitment and selection for annual CoMotion Labs Climate Incubator cohorts, ensuring a steady pipeline of climate tech startups.
Develop and refine onboarding procedures tailored for each new cohort, ensuring a smooth and effective transition into the program.
Work together with CoMotion’s marketing team to develop and execute strategies to broaden recruitment efforts and attract top talent in climate tech.
Implement member retention strategies to ensure startups stay engaged and connected beyond their cohort.Cohort Management and Mentorship Support:
Conduct regular 1:1 check-ins with each cohort team to set goals, track progress, and identify challenges.
Partner with the CoMotion’s Head of Mentor Programs to ensure startups are matched with mentors whose expertise aligns with their specific needs and goals, leveraging CoMotion’s extensive network of experts and advisors.
Expand the mentor pool by identifying and recruiting individuals with relevant climate tech or industry expertise.
Create and maintain a comprehensive resource manual that includes best practices, industry contacts, funding opportunities, and other relevant materials to support climate tech startups.
Facilitate connections between cohort members and UW resources, such as student talent, research collaborations, and specialized labs.
Conduct quarterly reviews with cohort members to gather feedback, monitor outcomes, and adjust program support as necessary.
Update CoMotion databases, including IPP, a management software used to store and track information for university technologies and intellectual property, with detailed information on startups enrolled in innovation activities, including financial funding and progress milestones.Physical Space Oversight:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the incubator space, ensuring a productive and collaborative environment for startups.
Collaborate with CoMotion’s partners, including external organizations and university departments, to continually improve the space.
Work with facilities management and other stakeholders to ensure the incubator is fully functional and supports the needs of the cohort and partners.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.Outreach and Community Coordination (40%)Marketing:
Collaborate with CoMotion’s Marketing and Communications team to promote the incubator’s achievements and goals.
Support marketing efforts, including creating web content, social media posts, and email campaigns, to raise awareness of CoMotion’s climate tech initiatives.
Develop success stories that highlight member achievements and showcase them on the CoMotion website to attract entrepreneurs and mentors.Event Planning and Management:
Plan and execute events that promote the Climate incubator, including networking events, workshops, pitch sessions, and more.
Partner with external stakeholders to organize cross-functional events that align with CoMotion’s broader mission.
Evaluate event outcomes, gather participant feedback, and provide recommendations to improve future programming.
Manage event-related communications, including email lists, Slack channels, and social media engagement.Community liaison:
Develop programs offering diverse, domain-specific expertise for startups by identifying and recruiting mentors with relevant experience.
Cultivate and strengthen University connections to Seattle’s broader startup community to advance regional entrepreneurship alongside CoMotion’s Business Development group.
Maintain frequent communication with other coworking community directors and regional organizations, such as Startup UW, Startup Seattle, New Tech Seattle, WTIA, PNNL, WA Clean Tech Alliance, Seattle’s SBA office, and the WA Department of Commerce, to identify resources like educational, training, or networking opportunities.
Promote the CoMotion Labs mission within local communities. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, marketing, humanities, arts and sciences or related field.
3 years’ work in service of entrepreneur and small-business clientele. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of the technology and entrepreneurial community in Seattle.
Demonstrated management experience, both project management and supervisory.
Knowledge of the startup ecosystem. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in coworking and/or incubator facilities or trade organization.
Experience in business development, economic development, or real estate.
