Port of Seattle College Intern - Engineering Design Technology in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

There two available positions for this opportunity, one summer internship, and one full-year internship.

Support the Port of Seattle Engineering Design Services Department as a member of the Design Technology team. The design technology team supports major construction, small works and tenant capital improvement projects for aviation, maritime and economic development projects. Interns will work closely with assigned mentors on a variety of initiatives, in support of CAD and BIM Standards development as well as QA/QC procedures.

  • Assist with maintaining and updating the Port’s CAD symbol libraries, details, and standards.

  • Assist with development and implementation of the Port’s new BIM Standard, including family and template creation.

  • Assist with supporting updates to the Port’s Guide Specifications and quality control procedures.

  • Perform, conduct, and/or assist the design technology team with site inspections.

  • Apply safety requirements while performing inspection and produce accurate as-built documents for stakeholders.

  • Creation and optimization of Dynamo scripts and custom Python nodes to automate repetitive tasks, improve data management, and streamline model coordination processes. You will collaborate with the Design Technology Team to identify automation opportunities, develop parametric tools, and test innovative solutions that align with our digital transformation initiatives.

Who you are:

  • A Student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, graduate degree program or certificate program, or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a program such as Building Information Modeling, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, structural engineering, architecture, construction, project management, computer programming/coding or other related field.

  • Curious – You’re seeking to learn more about and gain experience in BIM (Building Information Modeling) and related CAD drafting, standards, and best practices.

  • Technology – You have experience with MS Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. You have at least some experience with Autodesk applications such as AutoCAD and Revit.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – The summer internship work schedule will be Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment – This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Limited Duration – Both available positions are limited duration and are expected to last no longer than five months for the summer internship and twelve months for the full year internship.

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.

  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
