Port of Seattle Business Systems Analyst (AR/Billing) in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Business Systems Analyst, you will be responsible for key administration roles in a system module lead capacity over Enterprise Accounts Receivable (AR) and Billing modules, various revenue sub-systems, and the online invoice/payment portal to ensure financial integrity of information posted to the General Ledger (GL) and/or other accounting systems within AFR.

  • You will provide front-line systems troubleshooting for team members and external users of various revenue sub-systems, Enterprise AR and Billing Modules, and online invoice/payment portals.

  • You will communicate all necessary background information to managers, and Information Communication & Technology (ICT) for further investigation of unresolved system issues.

  • You will provide data from multiple sources of systems to meet regulatory compliance requirements for internal and external audits, other federal, state, local and ad hoc requirements.

  • You will serve as functional/operational subject matter expert and liaison with users of various revenue sub-systems (financial elements), enterprise accounting system, and online invoice/payment portal to assess and ensure viable systems functionality solutions. You will also perform as the functional/operational subject matter expert for Request for Information/Request for Proposal/Business Cases relating to financial aspects of various revenue sub-system implementations.

  • You will manage quality assurance by developing and implementing test strategy, test scenarios, followed by executing the tests, triaging, and documenting results ensuring seamless deployment of functionality or upgrade or implementation of new systems.

  • You will design report or reconciliation using multiple sources of data to ensure all valid revenue transactions are accounted for accurately in accordance with Tariff, executed leases, and generally accepted accounting principles, including complex audit schedules and required footnote disclosure.

  • You will develop and keep up to date all training materials and guidance to Port departments on various systems usage.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have four (4) years of experience in accounting operations and systems including functional administration of billing and accounts receivable systems and implementing financial tools and technology.

  • Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, management information system or business administration.

  • Knowledgeable – You have knowledge of applying prescribed accounting and financial reporting standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) or Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). You have advanced knowledge of broad-based internal controls over accounting and financial reporting and implementing new or upgrading major financial systems and software from a functional/business unit perspective. You also have knowledge and understanding of research of emerging technologies, products, and standards.

  • Analytical & Creative Problem-Solver – You possess analytical and problem-solving skills for complex problems/data with holistic view, attention to detail, and high level of accuracy by thorough self-review. You also have effective and well-developed research and troubleshooting skills to timely identify root cause analysis and provide solutions relating to system issues.

  • Efficient Communicator – You have effective verbal, written, and active listening communication skills. You can write concise, organized, and clear communications to internal and external customers. You are also able to engage others in active, open, and productive dialogue for the purpose of resolving issues. You can coordinate and lead multi-discipline project teams consisting of both in-department, and external groups to meet goals of reporting revenue in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Technically Skilled – You have proficiency with complex accounting systems (Accounts Receivable, Billing and GL) and sub-systems between each of the system tables, modules and integrated systems. You are proficient with Microsoft Suite, SharePoint and running reports using database queries and with lease management software, banking software, payment gateway and credit card reporting software.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
