Starbucks architect lead – Partner/Workforce Management in Seattle, Washington

Job Summary and Mission

As an architect lead within Starbucks Technology you will build and enhance global IT solutions that define how Starbucks delivers award winning consumer and partner experiences. Lead Architects are accountable for the conversion of business need into architectures and designs that will become the blueprint for a single domain’s capability development. As a member of the architecture community, you will also participate in developing technology solutions, design patterns, and best practices for Starbucks' global IT operations.

  • Work closely with a variety of technology teams to develop strategies, technology blueprints, logical designs, and perspectives for the partner work force management domain- including core infrastructure, platform development and digital experiences

  • Create opportunities via collaboration with a variety of stakeholders to improve our partner tech ecosystem

  • Advise cross-functional leaders in defining priorities, key initiatives, and organizational alignment to inform and support business decisions

  • Work alongside other architects devising meaningful ways to improve experiences and efficiency through shared roadmaps, technologies, and partnerships

  • Provide holistic technology thought leadership through active product and program engagement

  • Assist in developing proposals for enterprise technology strategies based on environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value, and risk

  • Lead in shaping technology solutions for programs that span multiple businesses in the enterprise

Leadership

  • A people-first style, strong multi-audience communications, and high emotional intelligence

  • A robust understanding in at least two or more of these spaces: retail commerce, core HR, enterprise employee experiences,, and/or workforce management; with a solid grasp of the others 

  • Aptitude to craft effective presentations and deliverables for both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and an interpersonal style that meets the needs of individual customers

Architectural Thinking

• Deep understanding of both physical retail and digital commerce systems

• Proficiency in data analytics, leveraging data to drive insights and improve engagement.

• Prior experience in performing build vs. buy analysis and vendor evaluations.

• Familiarity with architecture and agile delivery frameworks

Engineering Skills

  • Interest in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems

  • Deep knowledge in application development and supporting a development environment

  • Deep experience with Cloud Computing platforms

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as SOX, PCI, HIPAA, Data Protection, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing high capacity, redundant, and mission critical environments

  • Knowledge in databases and comfortable with various databases technologies

Interpersonal Skills

  • Build and maintains influential working relationships at all levels and across the enterprise

  • Contributes to a positive team environment by actively promoting respectful work environment

  • Regularly seeks and acts on feedback and actively engage and apply learning experience

Basic Qualifications

· Overall IT experience-12 years

· Variety of technical environments, systems, application development experience-10 years

· Architecture experience-5 years

· Functional and systems modeling-7 years

· Indirect people development-7 years

· Business process and system design-10 years

· Strategic planning-3 years

· Running technology proof-of-concept-7 years

· Financial analysis & business planning-5 years

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years in one or more of the following languages: C#, Javascript, Java, Python, Go, or Rust

  • At least 5 years of architecture or enterprise level analytical experiences and/or AI

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in developing APIs, Microservices, or enterprise event-driven system

  • At least 3 years of professional industry experience with WFM software development and platform management

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
