Geisinger Occupational Therapist- Full time -GCMC in Scranton, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Evaluates, directs, plans, and provides Occupational Therapy treatment for patients of all ages with a wide variety of disabilities to help them achieve a maximum level of functional independence. Documents patient care and results of treatment appropriately in the medical report to comply with policies and procedures of the department and regulatory agencies.

Job Duties

  • Evaluates, directs, plans, and provides Occupational Therapy treatment for patients of all ages.

  • Adheres to all department specific standards of care, clinical guidelines, and protocols in rendering patient care as described in department policy and procedures.

  • Completes assessments as established by unit standards and addresses physical, social, and psychological needs of patient and family.

  • Completes assessments on all admissions and discharges.

  • Formulates plan of care based on identified patient problem areas in conjunction with the patient, family, and other health care team members, including health teaching, family needs and discharge planning.

  • Establishes suitable and achievable goals with time frames.

  • Administers treatments according to priority and department procedure.

  • Evaluates effectiveness of therapy interventions and revises plan of care based upon patient response to interventions or because lack of progress.

  • Coordinates and provides patient care, discharge planning, and patient and family education through initiation and participation in care conferences.

  • Adheres to all portions of the program including precautions, special problems, and contraindications consistently and appropriately.

  • Provides education and instructions to the patient and family specific to the patient's needs and individual treatment program.

  • Thoroughly documents Occupational Therapy evals, treatments, responses to treatments, discharge summaries, and patient and family education in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Provides for patient equipment and therapy needs when applicable after discharge.

  • Supervises and directs patient care provided by other staff members.

  • Makes patient assignments in collaboration with other team members.

  • Directs and alters assignments in response to changes in patient situations.

  • Contributes to departmental program development.

  • Participates in continuing education opportunities to maintain competence in job function and assures safe and effective patient practice.

  • Contributes to community educational programs.

  • Alerts the care team of emergency situations and takes appropriate actions (i.e. patient falls, patient not responding, etc.).

  • Utilizes patient and employee occurrence and incident reports.

Education

Bachelor's Degree-Occupational Therapy (Required)

Experience

Minimum of 2 years-Related work experience (Preferred)

Certification(s) and License(s)

Licensed Occupational Therapist (Pennsylvania) - State of Pennsylvania; Certified Occupational Therapist - The National Board of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT)
