For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Primary Role_ The Cross Connection Specialist is responsible for performing skilled technical duties in the field using the state cross connection control program to ensure water systems are in compliance with environmental regulations relating to cross connections and backflow prevention assemblies are installed. _ Key Accountabilities_ * Performs technical inspections and field surveys. * Testing and maintenance of cross connection control devices and backflow assemblies to ensure protection of water supply systems. * Serves as the first point of contact for American Water customers, network staff and cross connection staff. * Provide day-to-day support: compose correspondence, research accounts, answer customer phone calls and perform data entry. * Assists the Sr. Specialist and/or Supervisor in coordinating the local enforcement of the cross-connection control program to ensure compliance with regulations, company tariffs, and the American Water cross connection best operating procedure (BOP). * Prepares data requests and reports in the ORCOM cross connection control system. * Maintains records and files of backflow device test reports, surveys, and inspection reports. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Good to excellent working knowledge of all Federal, State and local requirements for Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention regulations, guidance or statutes. * Technical knowledge on the functioning of backflow prevention devices and plumbing systems. _ Experience/Education_ * High school diploma required; associates degree preferred. * One (1) to two (2) years education or working knowledge of regulations and program essentials. _ Travel Requirements_ * Local daily travel _ Work Environment_ * Substantial time will be spent in the field visiting customers, answering questions on backflow device installation, and performing site inspections. _ Competencies_ Champions safety Customer obsessed Cultivates innovation Nimble learning Drives Results Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
