Responsibilities

The Mayo Clinic College of Science and Medicine in Arizona is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow to enhance research capacity and mentorship in implementation science, health equity, and cancer prevention and control. The Principal Investigator is Jessica D. Austin, Ph.D. - Mayo Clinic Faculty Profiles - Mayo Clinic Research (https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/austin-jessica-d-ph-d/bio-20537391) .

This position will provide the successful candidate with opportunities to be engaged in mentored research, gaining experience in implementation science, mixed-method data collection and analysis, systematic reviews, manuscript/grant preparation, and knowledge translation through community-engaged approaches. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to participate in research spanning the cancer prevention and control continuum, precision medicine, and biomedical ethics.

The candidate will join a multisite NCI-funded study (R33CA278594) using digitally enabled, community-engaged approaches to promote pain symptom management among Hispanic and/or rural-dwelling cancer survivors. The candidate will also assist with launching innovative trials aimed at equitable implementation of precision medicine approaches to population-level cancer screening.

Finally, the candidate will have access to Mayo Clinic's expansive training infrastructure provided by the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translation Sciences, Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Center for Individualized Medicine.

This position is a one-year full-time position, with potential for extension, subject to performance review. Periodic work travel to community events and Mayo Clinic sites may be required. Please submit an updated resume as well as a research statement and writing samples.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for independent research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent education in public health OR a health research-focused related field.

  • Students current enrolled in a doctoral program must provide evidence of degree-in-hand prior to being offered the fellowship.

  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative methods.

  • Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish language would be an advantage but not required.

  • Research experience related to implementation science, health disparities, or cancer prevention and control interventional studies.

  • Prior experience with systematic/scoping/narrative reviews.
