Robert Half Payroll Audit Clerk in Scotia, New York

Description We are in search of a meticulous and capable Payroll Audit Clerk to join our clients team located in Scotia, New York. This role involves assisting in the audit, review, and verification of payrolls and related documents. The position offers a contract to permanent employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Audit payrolls against appointment papers, budget authorizations, social security withholding taxes, health insurance deductions, and other related documents. • Assist with the processing of retirement documents. • Compute and check computations for items to be deducted from the payroll. • Contact various units and divisions concerning the auditing of the payroll. • Answer inquiries concerning payroll matters. • File tax and assessments and payroll registers for the department. • Aid in the review and processing of weekly payroll and accruals. • Track and process garnishments and child support, updating computer records as necessary. • Ability to handle all weekly payroll processing if necessary. • Perform a variety of related duties as required. Requirements High School Diploma or Equivalent: Most positions require at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (Preferred): Degrees in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field can be advantageous.

Attention to Detail: Ability to notice discrepancies and ensure accuracy in payroll records and reports. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to review and analyze payroll data. Familiarity with Payroll Software: Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex) and general accounting software. Knowledge of Labor Laws: Understanding of federal and state labor laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements. Mathematical Proficiency: Strong math skills for calculating wages, deductions, and other payroll elements. Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with employees and management.
