Threat Products and Services is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of MDA and MDA’s Missile Defense System. The Mission Support Threat Engineering Lead role serves as the leader of a team responsible for MDA test event contributions, missile threat modeling, and threat model verification and validation of threat representations across the kinematic, RF, and IR signature domains.

This position requires a detail-oriented engineer with demonstrated leadership characteristics who can effectively lead a team that is responsible for capturing and documenting requirements as they pertain all modeling disciplines pertaining to missiles as well as evaluating missile threat models for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools/frameworks/media. Must have a good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes. Must be familiar with missile concepts and physics behind missile motion, and how it affects signature representations. In order to support our mission, the Mission Support Threat Engineer Lead will be directly involved with discussions and collaborations with our customers, threat stakeholders, and intelligence analysts in order to best capture the requirements for developing and delivering accurate and relevant threat models. The selected individual must be able to work with little or no direct supervision, lead a product delivery team, and facilitate meeting time critical delivery schedules, and be expected to:

  • Lead a large team of inter-disciplinary engineers and subject matter expects on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC) in the area of threat missile system requirements derivation, modeling and simulation, and verification and validation across the CAD, kinematic, radio frequency, infrared hard body, and infrared plume disciplines

  • Communicate directly with the government customer on the contract and well as MDA test event stakeholders, scenario designers, integration leads, and accreditation groups

  • Work directly with intelligence centers to coordinate and obtain relevant threat missile system assessments and data, identify data gaps, and orchestrate modeling of desired threat missile systems

  • Identify innovative automation solutions and techniques for producing required MDA test event deliverables and threat models

  • Review and approve deliverables produced by the Mission Support Threat Engineering team

  • Track and report team member charging, deliverable status, performance, and metrics

This role requires candidates to be onsite daily with no option for remote/hybrid work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM Discipline and 9 Years of related experience; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD

  • 5 years of experience in Modeling, Simulation, and automation

  • Experience with the flight characteristics, motion, and performance of missile systems

  • Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong math, physics or engineering background is preferred

  • Previous experience with analyzing flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters of ballistic missiles is highly desirable

  • Previous experience modeling or simulating signature profiles and responses in both the IR and RF frequencies

  • Strong background in missile system engineering performance is highly desirable

  • Mastery of engineering modeling principles behind body motion, trajectory analysis, counter measures, debris, and signature modeling is a plus

  • Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $121,000 - $181,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
