IR Signatures Systems Engineer 2/3 to support the Threat Modeling Center (TMC) product line of the DE Task Order on the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC) program. The job location is at Schriever SFB, CO. There will be no remote work opportunities available.
The Threat Modeling Center is responsible for the development and delivery of high-fidelity threat modeling products in support of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and MDA's Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). TMC is responsible for the development of models and simulations (M&S) used to stimulate element models of MDA's BMDS, including kinematic missile modeling, IR signature modeling, data production/analysis activities, and maintenance/sustainment activities for the entire TMC software baseline. TMC is a cornerstone element to the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC), as part of the MDA Engineering Directorate (DE) Task Order.
This position requires a detail-oriented mid-level engineer responsible for developing high fidelity threat missile signature data packages for use in a variety of modeling and simulation tools and media. Must have a good understanding of modeling and simulation methods and processes. Must be able to apply standard engineering and mathematical algorithms to ensure the accurate portrayal of expected phenomenology characteristics during the flight of a missile. The selected individual must be able to work with little or no direct supervision, work as an integral member of a product delivery team and meet time critical delivery schedules.
Job responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
Gain experience with threat model phenomenology with a focus on Infrared (IR) signatures Research into IR signature predictions and simulation models. Actively work with the team to ensure completion of data production needs in support of MDA Ground Test Modeling and Simulation. Work in close coordination with TMC engineers for software requirements of threat modeling tools. Understand stakeholder requirements and ensure the quality production of threat missile data.
Minimum Requirements:
Level 2 : Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline; in addition to a background in infrared signature modeling, 2 years related experience; 0 Years with Masters
Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience at school and/or on a job
Practical Experience with Verification and Validation of modeling and simulation data at school and/or on a job knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and performance of missiles
Must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment, and be able to produce reliable products and documentation within established deadlines
Good oral and written communication skills
Experience with scripting/automation languages such as Python, Bash, or MATLAB
Excellent time management and great attention to details are necessary
Active DoD security clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI
Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aeronautics, Physics, or Math is required in addition to a background in infrared signature modeling, 5 years related experience; 3 Year with Masters, 1 Year with PhD
Modeling, Simulation, and automation experience
Previous experience with Verification and Validation of modeling and simulation data and knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and performance of missiles
Must be able to be independent, self-motivated and self-led, able to work in a dynamic team environment, and be able to produce reliable products and documentation within established deadlines
Good oral and written communication skills
Experience with scripting/automation languages such as Python, Bash, or MATLAB
Excellent time management and great attention to details are necessary
Active DoD security clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Agile software development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance
Strong math, physics or engineering background is preferred
Experience working with Intel Centers
Experience with IR Sensors and processing related data files
Experience with measured intensities from IR sensors; as well as, simulation and analytical atmospheric attenuation models.
Experience with JANNAF codes is a plus.
Experience with MODTRAN is a plus.

Salary Range: $81,300 - $121,900
Salary Range 2: $100,300 - $150,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
