Ellis Medicine Quality Specialist - Surgical in Schenectady, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Specialist is responsible for the overall oversight and implementation of the Quality Plan related to the Surgical Services of Ellis Medicine.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

RN license, 5 or more years of experience in a clinical setting and/or quality.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Completion of the American College of Surgery (ACS) courses and exam for NSQIP reporting.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Strong written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal, motivational and conflict resolution skills. Strong management and administrative skills. Broad-based knowledge of hospital related regulatory compliance requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Office and/or Clinical Setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sedentary work: requires sitting, standing and walking.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:

All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, various regulatory and professional agencies.

SUPERVISED BY:

Manager of Quality/Risk Management

SUPERVISES:

None

Operational:

  • Completes all NSQIP reporting requirements timely.

  • Analyzes NSQIP data for opportunities for processes improvement.

  • Works with surgical team members to utilize NSQIP and other surgical data to develop process improvement initiatives.

  • Works with process improvement teams to create action plans related to surgical services.

  • Holds process improvement teams accountable for deliverables related to action plans.

  • Effectively educates on quality issues and action plans related to surgical services.

  • Audits compliance with action plans.

  • Serves as an education resource on NSQIP Data Registry platform.

  • Works with other members of the quality team on process improvement initiatives as requested.

  • Assists other members of the quality team in abstracting data for reporting purposes.

  • Completes abstraction for specific diagnosis measures.

  • Participates in various committees to identify and support process improvement initiatives.

    Researcher:

  • Leads Performance Improvement and Monitoring related to NSQIP practices.

  • Applies current concepts and findings from research and/or studies to practice.

Salary Range: $24.75-$36.53/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
