Position Purpose:
The Structural Mechanic I plays a critical role in a team-oriented production environment by performing a variety of structural assembly tasks under moderate supervision. This position involves the assembly, fitting, and riveting of aircraft parts and structures to meet FAA requirements, customer specifications, and Gulfstream quality standards. The Structural Mechanic I will work with blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to ensure accurate and high-quality assembly and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Structural Assembly and Fitting:
Perform assembly and fitting of detailed parts and structures, including drilling and riveting operations.
Ensure all assemblies meet FAA requirements, customer specifications, and Gulfstream’s high-quality standards.
Riveting and Fastening:
Rivet structural assemblies and parts, including sheet metal, using tools such as portable riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, and rivets.
Blueprint and Document Interpretation:
Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine the sequence of operations, size and type of rivets, and hole patterns.
Quality Assurance:
Perform thorough checks of all work to ensure defect-free assemblies prior to final inspection.
Log and Record Maintenance:
Maintain and accurately document logs and records, such as MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, and PCOs.
Use the resource planning system to enter daily labor hours against correct work orders and item numbers.
Assembly Alignment:
Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners.
Shape and form complex angles and configurations in accordance with blueprints or written/verbal instructions.
Work Area Organization and Safety Compliance:
Maintain a neat and orderly work area to ensure compliance with safety regulations and support the company’s 5S program (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
Adhere to safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Moderate Supervision:
Work under moderate supervision while handling duties and tasks, following established operating procedures and quality standards.
Support Lean Initiatives:
Actively participate in continuous improvement activities (e.g., YIAW, Kaizen events) to enhance efficiency and productivity within the team.

Participate in Continuous Improvement:
Engage in Lean initiatives and process improvements to contribute to the overall operational efficiency.
Maintain Shop and Aircraft Work Areas:
Ensure work areas remain clean, uncluttered, and organized to maintain productivity and safety.
Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
Properly care for and maintain tools and equipment as assigned by the supervisor.
Adhere to Safety Regulations:
Strictly comply with all safety rules and procedures, ensuring safe operation of all machinery and tools.
Other Duties as Assigned:
Perform other tasks as needed to support the operations of the department.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
1 year of related structural assembly experience.
Experience with Solumina and Smarteam is preferred.
One year of experience credit may be granted for graduates of the Savannah Tech Aircraft Structures Technical Certificate Program .
Skills and Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of aircraft structures, sheet metal, and fabrication processes.
Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and sketches.
Proficiency in using a 6” scale and performing basic shop math.
Basic computer skills for logging work and maintaining records.
Ability to read, comprehend, and follow basic documents and instructions.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders, stands, or stairs, and work in small or confined spaces.
Personal Skills:
Strong attention to detail and a professional attitude.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet demanding schedules.
Must demonstrate good housekeeping practices and maintain safety standards at all times.
Ability to work with composite resins and materials as required for aircraft assembly.
Language Proficiency:
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Work Environment:
The role will be based in a production environment, where the Structural Mechanic I will be required to work on aircraft assembly tasks in a safe, controlled, and organized manner.
This role may involve work in confined spaces and on elevated surfaces, requiring adherence to safety standards.
The position may require flexibility in shift assignments as needed to meet production demands.

Pay Details: $21.21 per hour
