The Director of People and Culture is a pivotal role within our organization, overseeing all People functions at the corporate level to ensure they align seamlessly with our strategic goals and operational initiatives. This role embodies and champions our core values of care, courage, collaboration, inclusivity, and integrity. This leader will bring extensive expertise in multi-site management, a deep understanding of industry best practices, and a proven ability to lead and inspire a diverse team. Responsible for every facet of our People and Culture department - from talent acquisition and employee relations to performance management, compensation and benefits, and compliance - the Director of People and Culture will steadfastly uphold these values throughout their work, while leveraging People metrics to directly advance our business objectives.

This position has been segmented as 100% Virtual/Remote meaning the work is completed 100% remote anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii or United States Territories.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate cross functionally with business leaders to influence business and people strategies, based on a deep understanding of the business implications of organization strategies.

  • Develop and implement corporate People strategies and initiatives that align with our organizational goals.

  • Support the design and development of people-related initiatives, policies, processes, and programs to improve team and organizational performance.

  • Monitor key people metrics, leveraging those metrics in your efforts to improve company culture and overall performance.

  • Lead and manage the corporate People team, providing direction, coaching, and development to ensure high performance.

  • Oversee talent acquisition processes, including recruitment, selection, and onboarding, to attract and retain top talent.

  • Manage employee relations across multiple locations, ensuring consistent and fair application of policies and procedures.

  • Design and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career growth.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Administer and oversee employee benefits programs, ensuring competitive and equitable compensation.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive corporate culture that promotes employee engagement and satisfaction.

  • Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, and feedback.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation at the corporate level.

  • Provide strategic HR guidance and support to senior management.

  • Partner with senior leadership to align HR strategies with business goals and objectives.

Supervision:

  • Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Learning & Development, HRIS

Relationships:

  • Internal: Interact with all levels of associates within the CHEF’STORE business and leadership teams. 

  • External: Interact with consultants, vendors, and other third parties as necessary for projects and ongoing business concerns.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including support for senior business leaders

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful people strategies in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in multi-site HR management and corporate HR strategy development.

  • Strong understanding of legislation concerning employment (e.g. ADA, FMLA, OSHA, FLSA, Title VII).

  • Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment law.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or other relevant HR certification is a plus.

  • Prior experience working in a collective bargaining environment preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 50%

  • Cross-Functional Capacity: Understand the role and interrelationship of each organizational functions (E.G., Marketing, Sales, Operations Finance, Human Resources) Have experience and skill in managing across functional and organizational lines.

  • Shaping Strategy: Develop Distinctive strategies to achieve competitive advantage. Translate broad strategies into specific objectives and action plans. Align the organization to support strategic priorities.

  • Attracting & Developing Talent: Attract high caliber people, develop teams and talent with diverse capabilities. Accurately appraise the strengths and weaknesses of others. Provide constructive feedback, develop successors and talent pools.

  • Foster Open Dialogue: Promote a free flow of information and communication throughout the organization (upward, downward, and across) Listen actively, encourage open expression of ideas and opinions.

  • Adaptability: Maintain a positive outlook, resist stress and work constructively. Under pressure respond resourcefully to change the ambiguity.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Universal Pay Verbiage:

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. The expected base rate for this role is between $110,000 - $180,000.

This role will also receive an annual incentive plan bonus and a long-term-incentive.
