Sarasota County Government Utilities Design and Construction Technical Specialist in Sarasota, Florida

Do you have experience managing utility construction projects from design, permitting, and construction? Spend your days reviewing, examining, and coordinating the completion of utility, FDOT, and Site & Development plans and construction.   • Review utility, site, and development plans, plats, and easements for compliance with state and local regulations and coordinating reviews.

  • Review comprehensive plan, rezone, special exception, land development, and utility construction plan applications to ensure conformance with County Master Plans (water, wastewater, and reclaimed water), Utility Code, Land Development Regulations, and Comprehensive Plan.

  • Prepare FDOT Joint Project Agreements, Utility Work Schedules, and Utility Work by Highway Contractor Agreements.

  • Serve as project manager for assigned Sarasota County water, wastewater, and reclaimed water projects and advise on technical issues related to expanding or improving the existing utility system.

  • Review the performance of design consultants and/or construction contractors who are under contract with the county to design or construct major projects.

  • Supervise several projects simultaneously.

  • Perform on-site utility inspections and test verifications.

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related engineering field.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience or technical engineering-related project experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the degree, if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of utilities design and/or construction.

  • Knowledge and experience with GIS (ArcView).

  • Knowledge and experience with utility systems (water, wastewater, and reclaimed water).

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $55,577.60 - $63,000.00
