Sarasota County Government Seasonal Mosquito Field and Laboratory Aides - $19.00/hr in Sarasota, Florida

We have two positions currently available, our Field and Laboratory Aides. These opportunities are temporary/seasonal, running from 05/08/2024 - 10/31/2024, working Monday - Friday (no weekends), and both have a starting pay of $19.00/hr.

Job Description:

Field Aides

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting mosquito surveillance in county ditches and other water sources.

  • Treating the ditches with environmentally safe larvicide by use of truck mounted equipment.

Laboratory Aides

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting mosquito surveillance by setting and collecting mosquito traps.

  • Identifying adult mosquitoes using microscopes.

  • Working with our sentinel chicken program.

  • Occasional data entry.

Work Hours:

  • Seasonal/Temporary, 05/08/2024 - 10/31/2024

  • Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. ( no weekends! )

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License by start date.

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
