Sarasota County Government NEST Coordinator- Environmental Specialist III in Sarasota, Florida

Do you have a technical understanding of aquatic restoration and stormwater best management practices and a passion for developing and implementing various environmental improvement projects? As a NEST Coordinator, you will have a direct impact in using your skills to improve stormwater water quality for residential properties and provide input on stormwater projects.   • Implement, market, provide feedback, and expand the Neighborhood Environmental Stewardship Team (NEST) program to maximize the beneficial outcomes to neighborhoods and the aquatic environment.

  • Seek out other grants or other funding sources in support of NEST and Stormwater environmental programs.

  • Produce informative educational outreach materials and update websites relating to NEST projects and techniques.

  • Provide expert guidance, mentoring, and troubleshooting for the county- and privately-initiated projects involving shoreline stabilization, fish habitat, ecological restoration, aquatic plant management, pervious pavement and pavers, cisterns, bioswales, rain gardens, green roofs, and other techniques.

  • Conduct ecological assessments of waterways in support of projects.

  • Build collaborations among environmental advocates, community leaders, in-house staff, and other organizations.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and quality assurance.

  • Represent the County in public forums and present to the Board of County Commissioners as requested.

  • Collaborate with the Sarasota County Neighborhoods Services Program with a focus on neighborhood grants.

  • Support the activities of the Stormwater Environmental Utility such as Total Maximum Daily Loads program, living shorelines, stream restoration, Sarasota Water Atlas website, seagrass & scallop monitoring, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit reporting, and water quality sampling.

  • Establish and monitor water goats with the assistance of interns and community volunteers.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biological or physical science (or related field) AND three (3) years of professional experience.

  • -OR- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in biological or physical science (or related field) AND two (2) years of professional experience.

  • -OR- Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License at the date of hire.

Physical Demands: This position must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Starting Pay: $57,577.60 - $63,003.00 (based upon experience)
