We are looking for a talented, collaborative, adaptable, curious, and versatile lawyer to join our Content Legal team to support several business areas featuring Studio Affairs, Consumer Product, and Marketing Partnership Business and Legal Affairs (“BLA”) team. The successful candidate will be based in São Paulo and report to the Senior Director of Content Legal in Brazil. The Role: You will provide BLA support to business areas within the audiovisual industry, with a focus on Consumer Products (which amplifies fan love around titles by developing touchpoints for consumers to interact with Netflix, such as physical products, experiences, etc.), Marketing Partnerships featuring brand partnerships (to create the most impactful and talked-about partnerships in entertainment), and Studio Affairs. This role comprises experience in negotiating deals relevant to various business areas within the entertainment industry and in particular experience in the various aspects of licensing and merchandising (such as copyrights, name & likeness, manufacturing, risk management, licensee procurement, product development, and marketing) to support teams to get ideas and projects done. Responsibilities will include deal negotiation and contract drafting for merchandise licensees, retail marketing campaigns, and collaborations with third-party brands; ongoing licensee management; creative review of product creative to advise on IP and clearance issues; advising on talent agreements or third-party IP rights; partnering with marketing and marketing legal colleagues in reviewing marketing campaigns; providing legal training to business partners; reviewing production agreements and creating toolkits and guidance notes. Beyond the immediate teams and business partners of the areas you’ll support, you will work closely with cross-functional partners in accounting/finance, operations, tax, etc. and support the wider Content Legal Team. Preferred candidate profile:
6+ years of experience as a qualified attorney working on contractual and business matters (drafting and negotiating agreements in Portuguese and English is essential), including a good grounding in the space of licensing and entertainment transactions involving consumer products and marketing partnerships.
Experience in IP matters (feat. copyrights and trademarks) in regard to risk assessment in clearance procedures.
Knowledge of the Brazilian licensing and marketing industry from a business affairs standpoint.
Self-starter, curious, dynamic, demonstrate great initiative, and are excited and inspired by the Netflix culture.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work proactively, independently, and collaboratively with various teams with courage, curiosity, and flexibility.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines with little to no supervision in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Great judgment to proactively identify and seek relevant information cross-functionally to assess risks and make smart decisions in the face of ambiguity.
