Job Overview:

Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant with experience in the construction industry to join our client’s team on a contract basis. This position is ideal for accounting professionals looking to deepen their expertise in construction accounting and play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Management: Assist in managing the general ledger by recording daily transactions, maintaining accuracy in financial data, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

  • Job Costing Support: Support the job costing process by tracking and entering costs associated with specific construction projects. Help ensure that costs are accurately allocated and within project budgets.

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices and collection of receivables. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies.

  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure that all transactions are recorded and discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.

  • Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing financial reports, including WIP (work in progress) reports, cost variance analysis, and project profitability reports. Provide data to senior accountants and management as needed.

  • Month-End Close: Support the month-end close process by preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring that all financial data is up-to-date and accurate.

  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with construction industry regulations and assist in maintaining accurate and organized financial records. Prepare documentation for internal and external audits as required.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes within the construction environment. Implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.

  • Familiarity with construction accounting practices, including job costing, WIP reporting, and contract billing is a plus.

  • Proficiency in accounting software commonly used in construction (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, QuickBooks) and strong Excel skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.
