UCLA Health Sr. Clinical Lab Science Specialist - Oncology, Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California
Description
In this role, you will be responsible for performing the daily functions of the laboratory including, but not limited to phlebotomy, processing, analyzing and reporting of specimen results to ensure quality of patient care. Operate clinical laboratory instruments utilized for testing and perform required daily preventive maintenance and quality control. Provide training and oversight of laboratory operations at the outpatient oncology community practices.
Salary range: $60.71/hr - $78.17/hr
Qualifications
Required:
Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license
5 years lab experience in high complexity testing
Bachelor's degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or related degree
Knowledge of the Oncology patient population and practice operations
Knowledge of all aspects of a medical laboratory
Excellent blood withdrawal skills
Possession of BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Knowledge to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to Physicians and/or authorized personnel
Knowledge of basic laboratory regulations as stated by CLIA and the state of California, and be able to impart knowledge to others
Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform necessary blood tests for infusion therapy
Skill in learning, navigating, troubleshooting, and training others in the laboratory's LIS
Ability to accept direction from leadership and act promptly
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, peers, physicians and administrators.
Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with patients, their families, staff, and general public in a high volume, clinical setting
Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions including the ability to accept equivocal circumstances and respond to changing priorities and deadlines
Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility
Ability to effectively and efficiently train staff members in all aspects of laboratory systems and processes
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with sensitive and confidential information using discretion and judgment
Ability to provide own transportation and drive to all oncology community practices as needed
Ability to be punctual and maintain a satisfactory attendance record
Ability to work overtime in cases of emergency, or be flexible in work schedule based on operational needs
Preferred:
Minimum of two years of acute care/Oncology outpatient experience
Working knowledge of the UCLA electronic health records (CareConnect), and CGM Labdaq
