Responsibilities

The Senior Principal Infrastructure Analyst will provide direct support to the Santa Barbara, CA, Special Technologies Lab (STL) Information System Security Manager (ISSM).

Key Responsibilities

  • Devises solutions to the most technical problems and serves as an advisor to other technical personnel and management on critical hardware issues.

  • Reviews and recommends automation products for Mission Support and Test Services LLC (MSTS) use.

  • Participates in the design and development of MSTS’s Technical Standards.

  • Reviews requests for acquisitions of network-related equipment and software and requests for network cable installation.

  • Directs:

  • installation of network hardware, software and wiring for customer workstations and all network components.

  • analysis and resolution of network hardware, software and wiring problems.

  • network server administration and formulation of policy and procedures.

  • network design including developing proposals for implementation of network components with budgets and schedules.

  • Sets guidelines and service levels for network performance and capacity and reviews and directs monitoring activities.

  • Reviews and prepares procedures, documentation and activity reports.

  • Prepares budgets and schedules and monitors expenditures and progress.

  • May:

  • ensure appropriate training, tools, hardware, and software are available.

  • participate in management meetings to help define goals and strategies and to solve problems.

  • establish working relationships with client and vendor organizations.

  • represent the company when in contact with client, outside businesses, and governmental and military agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or equivalent training and experience with at least 12 years of related experience.

  • Knowledge equivalent to an MCSE, VCDX, CCIE with 12 years' experience working on server hardware, software, networking, virtualization, SAN, and related technologies. Microsoft Certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in VMware vSphere or other Virtualization technologies.

  • Takes ownership of technical problems and sees them through to resolution, using an advanced knowledge level of established standards, practices and procedures.

  • Maintain system performance.

  • Demonstration of successful project management capability.

  • Knowledge with Microsoft Products, Networking, EMC storage, SQL databases, and Oracle is a plus.

  • Full knowledge of technical principles, theories, standards, practices and procedures.

  • Perform within change control and ticketing system environment.

  • Provide tier three support to Technical Support Representatives as assigned (Linux, Windows, and Network systems, including the maintenance of systems: including but not limited to Rack mount servers, switches and Server blades and Chassis).

  • Provide tier three support to Data Center environments including site recoverability of the primary data center.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.

  • Assume ownership of complete lifecycle of infrastructure systems including but not restricted to input to assessment of design, builds, post installation support, and deployments.

  • Learn and comply with validation requirements, standard-operating procedures (SOP), and change control maintenance for product life cycle.

  • Document adjustments made to hardware and software; provide documentation for new systems as needed.

  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery and Backup technologies.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Team player with good customer service skills and the ability to work flexible hours if required.

  • Ensure to exhibit strong end-to-end troubleshooting skills for system, network or application.

  • Responsible for strategic vision and purpose of IT systems according to the organizations goals, objectives, and needs.

  • The primary work location will be at the Special Technologies Laboratory at Santa Barbara, CA.

  • Flexible work schedule can be negotiated with the manager; employees can work 5/8s or 9/80 work-weeks.

  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age.     Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is:$141,939.20 - $220,022.40.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
