What you will do:
Must be accessible to the lab as needed.
Resolves technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures.
Monitors quality control and instrument maintenance.
Oversees biennial procedure manual review in area of responsibility.
Maintains the competency program for section of responsibility. Trains employees and assesses ongoing competency of employees.
Keeps current in the field of laboratory medicine and takes an active role in the education of the laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals.
Reviews laboratory quality control and proficiency surveys on an ongoing basis to assure that laboratory policy is being adhered to in the performance and monitoring of quality control results. Ensures remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the lab’s established performance specifications.
Assists in the performance of inspections for the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Assures area of oversight is in compliance with all regulatory agencies.
Reviews current methodologies to assure the lab remains up to date for testing. Works with lab administration to bring in new tests/equipment to assure quality patient care.
Assures provision of adequate supplies and cleanliness of area of expertise.
Provide feedback on staff for annual evaluations as related to the area of expertise.
Works with LIS Analyst to assure interfaces and reporting systems are validated and compliant.
Performs laboratory tests and procedures in area of expertise to provide the physician with data to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Makes sure that work lists are released and results are appropriate for all age groups serviced before posted to the patient record.
What you will need:
Required: Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology or equivalent education with at least two years of experience in high complexity testing in the designated discipline; or
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology with at least one year of experience in high complexity testing in the designated discipline
MT, MLS, CLS, MLT certification with ASCP or equivalent required.
Chemistry background preferred.
Specialty certification preferred.
Has a complete understanding of laboratory and medical center policies. Has a complete understanding of laboratory procedures.
CPR/BLS certification preferred.
Ability to work in a stressful environment; ability to handle multiple priorities, and concentrate and communicate effectively in both oral and written form with management, patients, and co-workers.
Assumes a leadership role as needed. Ability to handle pressure and set example for staff.
