What You Will Do:

  • Knowledgeable of all aspects of surgical techniques and step-by-step process for routine and special procedures. Displays understanding of anatomy and physiology as it relates to the operative procedures in which they tech.

  • Applies the principles of asepsis and infection control in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care. Differentiates sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments necessary for special surgical procedures.

  • Prepares and knows the specific uses of all instruments, equipment and supplies used for the surgical procedures. Displays dexterity in the use of surgical instruments.

  • Provides appropriate preparation and conclusion for surgical procedures. This includes having surgeon preference card items in OR room, opening surgical supplies, scrubbing early enough to prepare case, assisting circulator as needed, cleaning out room at end of case and returning all items to their appropriate location.

  • Provides a safe, professional, efficient environment for the surgical patient and initiates appropriate preventative and corrective action. Performs efficiently in stressful and emergent situations.

  • Develops initiative in order to inquire and explore new surgical procedures and technology relating to the operating room and to the surgical patient.

    What You Will Need:

  • Graduate of a two year accredited program or equivalent training in Surgical Technology. BCLS certified.

  • Certification of competency by national exam by the Liaison Council on Certification, the certifying body of the Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc. If not certified at time of hire, need to be eligible at time of hire. Certification is required by the first anniversary date.

  • Certification maintained according to the Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc.

  • Specific requirement for First Assisting Role: completion of an approved program for the surgical tech in the first assisting role.

  • Ability to understand instruction and communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
