General Description

SUNY Niagara has a need for Part Time Cook to work in our Savor Restaurant located in the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute in Niagara Falls, NY. This position reports to the Culinary Arts Program Coordinator.

The rate of pay is determined based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For an Associates degree or lower the rate of pay is $21.22 per hour. For a Master’s degree or higher the rate of pay is $23.34 per hour.

In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Typical Work Activities

• Ensure the freshness of food and ingredients

• Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes

• Bake, grill, or fry meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods

• Boil and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods

• Arrange, garnish, and sometimes serve food

• Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes

• Cook, handle, and store food or ingredients

Essential Functions

Candidates for this position must have a passion for serving people; must be able to coordinate numerous tasks and projects simultaneously; must possess good organizational skills; must possess and have proven excellent customer service skills; must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors and students both verbally and in writing; must also possess good listening skills and be able to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions; must be able to relate to a diverse academic community as well as members of the WNY community; ability to operate computers and possess a working knowledge of Microsoft office, including Word and Excel; ability to prepare a written report; must have the capability to travel; must be able to work evenings and weekends as required; must be able to physically perform the functions of the position.

Required Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred; OR

• In lieu of a degree a minimum of year of food service experience is required.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time

Desirable Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Culinary Arts or related field

• Five years’ experience in a back of house food service operation

• Working knowledge of Windows office including, Word and Excel
