  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating trainings for adult audiences.

  • Demonstrated experience in serving on a multi-disciplinary team that conducts school behavioral threat assessments

  • Demonstrated knowledge of school behavioral threat assessment research and processes

  • Demonstrated knowledge of interventions for students

  • At least 3 years’ demonstrated experience serving as a K-12 district leader

  • Knowledge of school safety laws including the Texas Education and Administrative Codes

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite and virtual communication platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree

  • At least 5 years’ experience conducting school behavioral threat assessments.

  • At least 5 years’ experience providing interventions for students in a Pk-12 setting.

  • Knowledge of school safety best practices

Job Description

The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. The TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas. As a result, Texas has become a national leader in school safety practices and is relied upon for assistance and guidance from jurisdictions throughout the nation.

The TxSSC is seeking candidates that are highly experienced in the field of school behavioral threat assessment and school safety and are interested in having a positive impact on the safety and security of Texas schools.

This position will oversee planning, facilitating, and leading the delivery of Operationalizing School Behavioral Threat Assessment ( OSBTA ) technical assistance sessions and serve as a subject matter expert for school behavioral threat assessment at the Texas School Safety Center.

The primary goal of the training sessions is to provide technical assistance on school behavioral threat assessment implementation for school districts and public charter schools. This position requires an in-depth understanding of operationalizing a school behavioral threat assessment program within an educational setting and the ability to understand and interpret threat assessment data.

This position also requires excellent inter-personal skills with both school personnel and law enforcement, outstanding and professional customer service skills, high attention to detail, multi-tasking and organizational skills, enthusiastic professionalism, and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Duties

  • Support the implementation of Texas School Safety Center mission and vision.

  • Oversee planning, facilitating, and leading the delivery of OSBTA technical assistance sessions.

  • Oversee all aspects of SBTA technical assistance which can range from developing action plans for teams, follow-up training, and district site-visits

  • Manage and track correspondence with districts and Educational Service Centers

  • Understand regional, statewide and federal resources available to stakeholders and connect and follow-up with stakeholders on access and usage of the resources.

  • Track all technical assistance and action plans provided

  • Collect and interpret data from various sources on SBTA statewide trends

  • Review data and information for reporting requirements

  • Work closely with Center staff on SBTA trainings and resource development

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Additional Information to Applicants

  • Occasional overnight travel – up to 10% of the time throughout the State of Texas.

  • Required to work hours other than 8:00 – 5:00 as necessary, including up to 5% on weekends.

  • Must have valid Texas Driver’s License

  • If selected for an interview, you will be required to perform a writing assessment on the topic of school behavioral threat assessment.
