Position Description

TheSchool of Music (https://www.music.txst.edu/) at Texas State University seeks an engaging, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher/performer to serve as a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Piano. Duties begin August 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate applied piano, piano literature and pedagogy courses, chamber ensembles, and other topics according to the candidate’s qualifications and needs of the School of Music.

  • Maintain a record of scholarly/creative activity and make substantive professional contributions to the field of piano performance.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities.

  • Recruit and retain a full studio of undergraduate and graduate piano students.

  • Possible leadership role with the Texas State International Piano Festival and/or FunKey Piano Project.

  • Other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music.

Positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Assistant Professor:

  • Doctorate in piano or related field (must be completed by August 16, 2025) or equivalent professional experience.

  • Evidence of excellence in solo and collaborative piano performance at the professional or collegiate level.

  • A record of achievement in scholarly/creative activity and demonstrated potential for further professional growth.

  • Potential for success in student recruitment.

  • Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds.

Associate Professor:

In addition to required qualifications for the Assistant Professor rank:

  • Minimum six years of full-time university teaching.

  • A record of teaching, scholarly/creative activities, and service commensurate of tenure at Texas State University

  • A sustained record of achievement in scholarly/creative activity resulting in national recognition and stature.

  • Evidence of success in student recruitment.

To be eligible for hire at the Associate Professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the School of Music. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on established university and school standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):

  • University teaching experience.

  • National/international stature as a pianist.

  • Specialization in collaborative piano performance and the training of collaborative pianists.

  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
