How will you make an impact
The Staff Scientist role is in the Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry business unit, part of the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division, and located in San Jose, CA.

What will you do
As part of the Triple Stage Quadrupole Research and Development team, conduct groundbreaking research and development in the field of mass spectrometry to develop novel technologies related to Quadrupole and Ion Trap mass analyzers.
Investigate and explore new ideas and concepts by defining experiments, building, debugging and characterizing prototype instruments in order to verify proof of principle.
Test and verify new products and product improvements.
Provide guidance and leadership to mechanical, electrical and software engineers in order to design prototypes and new products.
Participate in new products introductions as subject matter expert of cross-functional teams composed of product management, marketing, product support and operations personnel.
Maintain substantial knowledge of innovative principles and theories, contributing to scientific literature and conferences.
How will you get here
Education/ Experience
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience in a product development lab designing and developing analytical instrumentation; or 6 years of experience with a Master's degree; or a PhD; or equivalent experience.
Practical knowledge of ionization techniques, high vacuum systems, ion optics, quadrupole and ion trap analyzers.
Solid programming skills (Python, Lua, C#, C++…).
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Capable of working with multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to travel internationally (10%).
Working knowledge of ion trajectory simulation and/or fluid dynamics software (SIMION, Comsol Multiphysics, ANSYS).

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $123,800.00–$170,000.00.
This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
