Samsung SDS America Senior Systems Administrator, Infrastructure and Automation in San Jose, California

Samsung SDS America is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator with a strong background in system administration, infrastructure automation, and network management to join our Device Solutions America (DSA) Lab Support team to support Samsung Semiconductor. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable, high-performance systems to meet both operational and R&D project needs. This role involves managing complex virtualization environments, leading storage solutions, and implementing automation processes to streamline workflows. You will also play a critical role in enhancing the security posture of the systems and ensuring the overall reliability of our infrastructure.

This position requires technical expertise across a variety of platforms, including VMware, Cisco, NetApp, andAnsible, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where flexibility is key.

This role works onsite at Samsung Semiconductor in San Jose, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer system administration solutions to meet project and operational requirements, including building and configuring servers, hardware, directories, and storage management systems.

  • Install, configure, and maintain both physical and virtual servers (VMware, KVM) to meet ongoing infrastructure needs. Apply security patches and updates as necessary.

  • Oversee network infrastructure, with a focus on Cisco and Mellanox equipment. Support and manage network devices as per organizational needs.

  • Maintain virtualization platforms and manage storage systems (NetApp, Dell/EMC, PureStorage) to ensure optimal performance and scalability.

  • Support and automate infrastructure processes using tools like Ansible, Foreman, and GLPI for inventory management and deployment.

  • Maintain and enhance system security by installing security patches, monitoring systems for potential intrusions, and ensuring compliance with security standards.

  • Manage daily backup operations, ensuring that file systems and data are properly archived, and that disaster recovery processes are in place.

  • Provide Tier III support for infrastructure issues, including server, network, and storage failures. Troubleshoot software tools, EDA tools, and FlexLM licensing issues.

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning of systems, upgrade hardware, optimize resource allocation (CPU, memory, and disk), and manage performance monitoring processes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of System Administration experience.

  • Associate’s degree preferred in Computer Science, IT or similarfield.

  • Proficiency with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM) and storage systems (NetApp, Dell/EMC, PureStorage).

  • Experience with network equipment (Cisco, Mellanox) and network infrastructure support.

  • Strong experience with Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows server environments.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation tools (Ansible) and deployment management tools (Foreman, GLPI).

  • Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes.

  • Familiarity with EDA tools, FlexLM license management, and Jenkins, JIRA, Git, LDAP environments.

  • Experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting server hardware and software.

  • Strong ability to maintain system standards, security compliance, and system performance.

  • Expertise in managing security patches, system backups, and disaster recovery operations.

  • Proven experience in investigating and resolving complex system issues.

  • Ability to provide Tier III support and manage cross-functional collaboration for troubleshooting and resolution.

  • Willing and able to commute to the office 5 days per week.

  • Willing and able to travel for business up to 10%.

The base pay range for this role is $110000 - $168000 per year.

Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of the role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. U.S.-based employees also receive, per calendar year, up to 10 scheduled paid holidays, and Paid Time Off.
