APTIM Electrical Safety Engineer in San Jose, California

Job Overview:

APTIM is seeking a seasoned mid-level Electrical Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer on a full-time basis dedicated to high and low voltage electrical safety programs and management. The role will support the client electrical safety maturity process through the following tasks:

  • Electrical site inspections focused on NFPA 79 requirements.

  • Gap Assessment and Resolution;

  • Evaluating the needs of a LOTOTO (Lock out tag out and try out) program;

  • Implementing the LOTOTO program as per OSHA requirements;

  • Certification of the LOTO process;

  • Writing equipment/machine specific LOTO procedures for site equipment;

  • Evaluating electrical labeling requirements;

  • Performing electrical assessments of building and labs;

  • Evaluating electrical work permits

This role is a full-time onsite position located at an APTIM client site in San Jose, CA. Must live near San Jose CA to be considered.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Executing various work scopes, while meeting project schedules and budgets.

  • Working independently and as part of a project team and be able to adjust to changing conditions.

  • Working as a team member and/or team lead to assist in preparation of regulatory reports and permit applications.

  • Interfacing with client personnel at a facility level.

  • Perform site assessments/inspections for environmental, health, and safety, up to and including job safety assessments (JSA), laser safety, lockout/tagout evaluations, confined space determinations, and laboratory health and safety audits, hazardous waste audits, stormwater compliance, spill prevention countermeasures and control plans, air emissions, etc.

  • Conduct JSAs for high voltage testing and ensure compliance to these safe work practices.

  • Conducting regulatory and statutory electrical regulation reviews for client applicability, particularly in the electrical safety requirements.

  • Assist in electrical permit management and application or renewal application processes.

  • Managing time to ensure a quality product is prepared to meet project deadlines.

  • Applying knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.

  • Following defined processes explicitly while also being able to identify and accommodate new or changing scenarios, as well as, developing processes for new activities.

  • Individual should be aware that the field work can be physically challenging and may involve working in industrial settings.

  • Working at heights, and areas of high temperatures are a possibility.

  • Auditing Inspections.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in a core science such as geology, chemistry, physics, biology, or safety/industrial hygiene), engineering, or related area required.

  • Licensed Electrical Engineer or evaluated relevant industry equivalent required.

  • At a minimum of 5-10 years of electrical safety work experience in high and low voltage systems.

  • Work experience in the semi-conductor industry.

  • Experience in Clean Room Lab Environments.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills required. Must have a demonstrated strength and proficiency in Microsoft applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint Online, etc. and the ability to learn other software applications.

  • Willing to work in the field if necessary, including travel to additional client site locations if necessary.
